How funny, I just moved west from the midwest, to get away from snow and alcoholism. Sounds like you are being very responsible on your plan. Congrats on your degree. Take the time and do things right. You are not in any hurry and don't want to make any mistakes.
Good luck with the divorce, it takes time but worth the wait.
