Music!

If this isn't an inappropriate place to post this I'm sorry, would someone kindly direct my where to repost this?

I grew up surrounded by music. Guitars. Singing. Get together where they'd play guitar and sing old songs. Music was and still is a HUGE part of my life. It inspires me when I'm down, it lets me feel sad when I need to, it pumps me up for a new move I need to make, a change......

And so much more.

I thought we could share some of our favorites. They don't have to be happy, sad, "strong", ....nothing. Just what helps us at the many different times we need to identify with something, and in my case, belt it out, even when I have a sinus infection and sound God awful! Lol!

My next post will be about the songs I love. You can link things. I may post lyrics as well for those of us who don't want to follow a million links! This way they can preview the nature of the song before following a link.

Again, music has always been my friend.

And again, if there is a more appropriate place to post this I'm sorry. Please move it. I've looked around this site quite a bit but am still feeling like in in a new city and don't know my way around entirely yet lol.

Peace.

OnawaMiniya,

I think we have had threads about music that inspires us.
It seems like a fine place to post, but if I am wrong, well, okay.

I love music so much. The only instrument I ever learned to play was the recorder.
If you know what that is, you could be middle aged!
"From the Halls of Montezuma, to the shores of Tripoli"
I do have an affection for marches, parades and the like.
(I grew up in the Army, went to DOD schools on Army bases.)

Now, I love alternative music.
Old, old country bad boys.
Willie Nelson and "Blue Eyes" (I think is the title)

And, when I even think about it "You Were Always on My Mind" makes me cry sometimes.

So much music, so little memory. Until it comes on, and suddenly, I know the words!

Beth

PS I love the avatar you have chosen, so beautifully blue and perfect.

Onawaminiya- I grew up with lots of music and folk song/guitar playing stuff myself and music is a huge thing in my life.... Love this thread...

One song that I love is Tanya Savory "Reason Enough". It's written from the perspective I think of someone telling a partner that if they don't want to be together anymore they don't need to give a reason and that wanting to leave is reason enough... I heard it for the first time maybe 3 yrs ago and never listened to the words too much but found myself running to it over and over (it has a great cadance for running) and then one day listened carefully to the words and it resonated with me that I did not have to have a reason or justification for wanting to be out of my marriage-- that whether he was an A or a jerk or not, I didn't have to justify or explain to anyone why I wasn't going to "try" anymore...

Anyway, it's a favorite...

Oh and anything by Gordon Lightfoot I love too.

Thank you so much!

It is a blue anemone symbolizing "bringing luck and protecting against evil"; " unfading love. It is also symbol of luck, anticipation, and protection against evil.". Of course I have seen negative interpretations as well, but I choose to stick to the good ones... I think it's so beautiful.

There are purplish ones as well, so pretty. If you Google the images, they have quite a range of appearance.

Peace.

Hammer, when I read this line I thought of a song it goes,

When I say I need you
You say you better
You better you better you bet,
When I say I love you
You scream you better
You better you better you bet,

Who is it? I cannot remember the group or the song!

WTBH,

I love Gordon Lightfoot too.
I am going to look up that song by Tanya Savory.

PS

Hammer, you can play the banjo?
Now, I am going to have to listen to that song, you know, from that movie with Burt Reynolds on a river.
another brain lock.

Amazing Grace
Until I went to rehab, I never really heard it, if you know what I mean.

A favorite song of mine (orgive me, the "n" and "f" keys don't cooperate well lol), is by Björk. Love that woman.

I think many of you would find the lyrics of "Army of Me" particularly spot on in certain situations!

"Army Of Me" by
link: Bjork- Army of Me (lyrics on screen) - YouTube not sure that link will work bc husband has computer set up like an insane geek.

stand up
you've got to manage
i won't sympathize
anymore

and if you complain once more
you'll meet an army of me (2x)

you're allright
there's nothing wrong
self-sufficience please!
and get to work

and if you complain once more
you'll meet an army of me (2x)
army of me

you're on your own now
we won't save you
your rescue-squad
is too exhausted

and if you complain once more
you'll meet an army of me

**************
But you could look it up on youtube. Note that some vids won't play on mobile devices. EDITED: the link worked! yeah! Here is one for those using mobile devices: BJÖRK-ARMY OF ME - YouTube

Peace.

"Karma - Alicia Keys"
Alicia Keys - Karma - YouTube

Weren't you the one who said that you don't want me anymore
And how you need your space and give the keys back to your door
And how I cried and tried and tried to make you stay with me
And still you said your love was gone and that I had to leave
Now you're Talking bout a family
Now you're saying I complete your dreams
Oh
Now you're sayin I'm your everything
You're confusing me
What you saying to me, don't play wit me, don't play wit me
Cause....

[Chorus:]
What goes around comes around
What goes up must come down
Now who's cryin', desirin' to come back to me
What goes around comes around
What goes up must come down
Now who's cryin, desirin', to come back

I remember when I was sittin home alone
Waitin for you til 3 o'clock in the 'morn
And when you came home you'd always have some sorry excuse
Half explaining to me like I'm just some kind of a fool
I sacrificed the things I wanted just to do things for you
But when it's time to do for me
You never come thru
Now you wanna be up under me
Now you have so much to say to me
Now you wanna make time for me
Whatcha doin to me, you're confusin me
Don't play with me don't play with me cause

[Repeat Chorus 2x]

I remember when I was sittin home alone
Waitin for you till 3 o'clock in the 'morn
Night after night knowing something goin on
Wasn't long before I be gone
Lord knows it wasn't easy believe me
Never thought you'd be the one that would deceive me
And never do what you're supposed to do
No need to approach me fool, cuz I'm over you

[Repeat Chorus]

Gotta stop trying to come back to me

[Repeat Chorus]

It's called Karma baby and it goes around

Just wanted to clarify that all KINDS of songs help depending on where we are "at". Some songs telling people off, some sad ones, some empowering us to take charge, etc. I'm aiming to include a variety, because we are all over the place, even if only rarely as we have become pretty stable and peaceful in general.

But we all have our sad, angry, depressed, confused, furious, fed up moments and then some... Music is a great way to get that crap out of our heads and release those negative feeling and self defeating thoughts without causing harm around us.... unless of course we don't use it as therapy but as something to dwell on. Peace

Alicia Keys - Lesson Learned

Great song!!!
Alicia Keys - Lesson Learned, Lyrics In Video - YouTube

"Lesson Learned"
(feat. John Mayer)

He broke my heart
And now it's raining
Just to rub it in
I'm at your door
I feel so crazy about it
You'll say I told you so
You saw it long ago
You knew he had to go
I finally came 'round
I'm back on solid ground
Can't let it get me down

It's alright
It's alright
It's alright

Yes I was burned but I called it a lesson learned
Mistake overturned
So I call it a lesson learned
My soul has returned
So I call it a lesson learned
Another lesson learned

Sometimes
Some lies
Can take a minute
To fully realize
His tears
Your eyes
Thirty seconds to apologize
You give it one more chance
Just like the time before
But he already know you'd give a hundred more
Until that night in bed
You wake up in a sweat
You're racing to the door
Can't take it anymore

I was burned but I called it a lesson learned
Mistake overturned
So I call it a lesson learned
My soul has returned
So I call it a lesson learned
Another lesson learned

Life perfect
Ain't perfect
If you don't know what the struggle's for
Falling down ain't falling down
If you don't cry when you hit the floor
It's called the past cause I'm getting past
And I ain't nothing like I was before
You ought to see me now

Yes I was burned but I called it a lesson learned
Mistake overturned
So I call it a lesson learned
My soul has returned
So I call it a lesson learned
Another lesson learned

Yes I was burned but I called it a lesson learned
Mistake overturned
So I call it a lesson learned
My soul has returned
So I call it a lesson learned
Another lesson learned

Björk - Scatterheart

Björk- Scatterheart - YouTube

Black night is fallig
The sun is gone to bed
The innocent are dreaming
As you should, sleepy-head
Sleepy-head, sleepy-head:

All the love above
I send into you
Comfort and protection
I'll watch over you

But don't ask me
What's gonna happen next
I know the future
I'd love to lead you the way
Just to make it easier on you

You are gonna have to find out for yourself (repeated)

My

Dearest

Scatterheart

There is comfort
Right in the eye
Of the hurricane
Just to make it easier on you

You are gonna have to find out for yourself (repeated)

All the hurt in the world
You know
There's nothing I'd love to do more
Than spare you from that burden
It's gonna be hard

If I only could
Shelter you
From that pain
Just to make it easier on you

You are gonna have to find out for yourself (repeated)

Forgive Me...

...i I am going a bit overboard posting these things lol. I cannot begin to express the role music has had in my life. Sometimes it can be my only release or friend. If you are rolling your eyes at my persistence and perhaps borderline obsession posting these things, please say so! lol

Björk: Show Me Forgiveness

If you listen to ONE of the songs I have posted, please make it this one. Simple, short, breathtakingly gorgeous. No music, just her voice. I challenge anyone to not be moved.

Björk:Show Me Forgiveness
björk : show me forgiveness - YouTube

Show me forgiveness
For having lost faith in myself
And let my own interior up
To inferior forces

The shame is endless
But if soon start forgiveness
The girl might live

Björk: Where is the line with you

Admittedly the music is not for everyone's taste, but good lyrics:

Björk - Where Is The Line? - YouTube

Where is the line with you?
Where is the line with you?
Where is the line with you?
Where is the line with you?

My purse wide open
You ask again
I see you trying to
Cash into accounts
Everywhere

Where is the line with you?
Where is the line with you?
Where is the line with you?
Where is the line with you?

I want to be flexible
I want
To go out
Of my way for you
But enough is enough

Where is the line with you?
Where is the line with you?
Where is the line with you?
Where is the line with you?

I am elastic
I want to go out of my way for you
I want to help you

Where is the line with you?
Where is the line with you?
Where is the line with you?
Where is the line with you?

I want to have capacity for you
And be elastic, elastic, to be elastic for you
Where is the line with you ?

I'm elastic for you
But enough is enough

Where is the line with you?
Where is the line with you?
Where is the line with you?
Where is the line with you?
