Here's my 3 favs, from the stages I went through in my own recovery.
Joan Jett - I Hate Myself For Loving You [ Original HQ ] - YouTube
My ex actually looks a lot like Joan Jett, only better
As I got that hang of this whole al-anon thing I switched over to this song
Bon Jovi - You Give Love A Bad Name - YouTube
... and when I finally got my "feces amalgamated" I moved into this one:
Better Now - Collective Soul with the Atlanta Symphony Youth Orchestra - YouTube

Thanks, Beth. Yes, quite a powerful song!
It is basically, in a nutshell, what my relationship with my XA was....he never called and asked to see me when he was sober (from being here on SR and doing lots of research, I now recognize that he was always either drunk, high or usually both), and I also now realize that he was never 'mine.' I thought of him as mine, thought of myself as his, wanted him to be mine more than I've ever wanted anything, but he never was.
After listening to that song again last night, I also realize why I always avoided listening to it when it came up in rotation on my ipod while I was involved with my XA....it's because deep down, I knew the words were true and I just didn't want to (COULDN'T) face it. Very eye-opening, indeed!

Omnawaminiya! I hope I spelled right this time. I found my way here under the direction of firesprite and there you were at the top of the page talking about music and I felt like I was home! I'm so glad there is a thread like this and that you and I and many others love music so much. I couldn't find this thread when I posted mine. I still am not quite sure how to post the links, do I copy and paste the URL in that box and get the URL from YouTube? Thanks again and hope today finds you feeling better and in less pain. Sending hugs and sunshine your way
...i I am going a bit overboard posting these things lol. I cannot begin to express the role music has had in my life. Sometimes it can be my only release or friend. If you are rolling your eyes at my persistence and perhaps borderline obsession posting these things, please say so! lol

Considering that A's are users. Mine is no different.

Love that Tracy Chapman song, Hammer. We must be the same era. Remember when that record came out...
I usually recommend the same song every time this comes up: Gunpowder and Lead. Miranda Lambert.

Oh, how could I forget Tracy Chapman!!?? LOL
Thank you for reviving this thread Suncatcher!
Another one that I *love* is Fiona Apple - "Sleep to Dream"
"Sleep To Dream"
I tell you how I feel
But you don't care
I say tell me the truth
But you don't dare
You say love is a hell
You cannot bear
And I say gimme mine
Back and then go there
For all I care
I got my feet
On the ground
And I don't go to
Sleep to dream
You got your head
In the clouds
And you're not at
All what you seem
This mind, this body
And this voice cannot be
Stifled by your deviant ways
So don't forget what I told you
Don't come around
I got my own hell to raise
I have never been
So insulted in all my life
I could swallow the seas
To wash down all this pride
First you run like a fool
Just to be at my side
And now you run like a fool
But you just run to hide
And I can't abide
I got my feet
On the ground
And I don't go
To sleep to dream
You got your head
In the clouds and
You're not at all
What you seem
This mind, this body
And this voice cannot be
Stifled by your deviant ways
So don't forget what I told you
Don't come around
I got my own hell to raise
Don't make it a big deal
Don't be so sensitive
We're not playing
A game anymore
You don't have
To be so defensive
Don't you plead me your case
Don't bother to explain
Don't even show me your face
'Cause it's a crying shame
Just go back to the rock
From under which you came
Take the sorrow you gave
And all the stakes you claim
And don't forget the blame
I got my feet
On the ground
And I don't go
To sleep to dream
You got your head
In the clouds and
You're not at all
What you seem
This mind, this body
And this voice cannot be
Stifled by your deviant ways
So don't forget
What I told you
Don't come around

The lyrics to Please by Aaron Lewis
Can't you see that I'm sick of this?
Chances are you're oblivious
To how I feel
Sitting on your throne,
And I'm sure that I'm not alone.
Not alone.
Not alone.
Tell me, please!
Who the f*** did you want me to be?
Was it something that I couldn't see?
Never knew this would be so political.
And, please!
I'm still wearing this miserable skin,
And it's starting to tamper within,
But it's obvious that doesn't bother you.
So, please.
I didn't think that you'd sell me out.
Now I know what you're all about.
You might feel in control of things,
But you're not holding all the strings.
All the strings.
All the strings.
Tell me, please!
Who the f*** did you want me to be?
Was it something that I couldn't see?
Never knew this would be so political.
And, please!
I'm still wearing this miserable skin,
And it's starting to tamper within
But it's obvious that doesn't matter to you.
I've swallowed all your answers.
I've swallowed all my pride.
You've used up all your chances.
Can't keep this all inside.
Kill me, please!
Who the f*** did you want me to be?
Was it something that I couldn't see?
Never knew this would be so political.
And, please!
I'm still wearing this miserable skin,
And it's starting to tamper within,
But it's obvious that doesn't bother you.
So, please!
Don't keep telling me that it's okay.
I don't buy all the s*** that you say,
And quite honestly I'm f***ing sick of it.
So, please!
If I cut off this nose from my face,
Then I wouldn't feel so out of place,
But it still wouldn't be quite enough for you.
So, please.
Can't you see that I'm sick of this?
Chances are you're oblivious
To how I feel
Sitting on your throne,
And I'm sure that I'm not alone.
Not alone.

This song gives me insight into the mind of an addict and what the disease would say if it could speak. http://YouTube./A8MO7fkZc5oi hope it works I'm new to posting the links, but it's called "Sad But True " by Metallica

The url (address of the page you want to post) gets pasted into the box that pops up when you click the icon to post a link (the little picture of the globe with a paperclip at the top of the box where you write your post). So yes, just go to the page you want to share with everyone, and copy that address/url. Then click on the little globe and paperclip icon, and when that box pops up, paste the address/url there, and then click "ok".
If you still have problems just let me know!
Peace.

True Love by Pink - sounds like a song written by a codependent. I love you, I hate you, I love you, I hate you, I love you.
The Good Stuff by Kenny Chesney - from the perspective of a RAH, but the wife dies. Makes me cry my eyes out now. But I also cried last night watching the last 15 minutes of Look Who's Talking and then I was pissed at AH for making regular ol' feel good movies feel sad because they have happily ever afters and I don't. *******.
