I've been sober for decades and seen many alcoholics. When it comes to relationships, each one is different. Some are good at it, some bad.

you have seen an active alcoholic that had a good relationship?
I have not seen it, but that doesnt mean they don't exist.

I simply can not thank you all enough for all the information and insight that you have provided me. I guess I was a bit naive about the whole "time in recovery" thing. Yes, lapsing is starting all over again, and when we started dating he would have been in his first year again!

When I said I spoke with his sponsor, he is actually his best friend and my friend as well. We spoke as friends, not as his sponsor. He only advised me to take care of me, be patient and leave it in Gods hands...which is what I have done.

Thank you all again for the help...its nice to know there are places where you can go and get honest answers and insight for something like this.

Many Thanks
