devastated
Oh I'm so sorry. I just had a male friend reach out to me who never shows any kind of emotional sadness, covers everything up with comedy. He put his 16 year old cat down, and we talked for hours about why it is so hard to lose animals. They are so hard to lose.
I'm sorry your going through this. Those babies shape our lives in ways we never imagined.
With mine I've found time helps the pain. Big hugs to you..

No matter how hard you try, you're just never ready to let go
No, we're never ready to let them go, even tho we know in our hearts that it's not a long relationship it still aches like hell when it comes time to say goodbye. There's a poem that expresses that feeling better than I can. I will look for it. Here it is:
SEPARATE LIFETIMES
We who choose to surround ourselves
with lives even more temporary than our
own, live within a fragile circle;
easily and often breached.
Unable to accept its awful gaps,
we would still live no other way.
We cherish memory as the only
certain immortality, never fully
understanding the neccesary plan....

Junior led a great life with you and that is what he knew when he passed. Take peace in that.
You are not alone in your grief. The greates souls I've known were four-legged. I miss them all as if the loss were yesterday. I take heart in knowing I will see them all again when it's my time and to them it will be as if they left me only for a moment if at all.
We never get past the loss really, but in time the heartache eases.
With love,
Alice

I'm so sorry kitty. I have a Golden and had another before this one. They are truly so special. I feel your sorrow but he'll be waiting for you and you'll be together again....in the blink of an eye. (((((Hugs)))))
I'm so sorry Kitty, I've had 3 dogs in my 43 years, all lived to be over 15 ( two at my mums and one when I left home) I miss them all so much. I 'm sure the last one is still with us, even though she never lived at this house I'm sure I hear her paws on the kitchen floor from time to time.
We have a new baby coming here tomorrow for fostering, she was found running around the main road in town all alone, no collar ID or anything, a young cross (possibly lab and whippet) Did I say fostering, I'm sure it'll turn into adoption!

In our rescue club we call that a "foster failure"! Great news, Lucy. Thanks for doing that.
