Mambo Queen, I think you answered your own question,
I would say this:
As far as what he choses to do with that, you have no control. He can continue to love you forever. You can't change that. You can set up boundaries though

I would say this:
right now, today, I don't think I would ever want to be back with him in a romantic relationship
If needed.
