In my opinion, the title of this thread is incomplete. To make sense, it should say "alcoholics have to own their own behavior--if they are to recover." Same with enablers. We have to own our behavior--if we are to recover. Nobody has to do anything. She is free to continue down the path of alcoholism. You are free to continue to live miserably. She has choices, you have choices. Trying to force someone else to make a choice we want them to make is just a smokescreen for not wanting to face our own difficult choices.
