I'm new
Hi everyone,
I'm not sure what to say. I just know I need support and I'm grateful to find this site. I'm newly sober and don't have anyone to talk to about it. This detox is rough. Today I feel like I have the flu. Am home from work. The headache is non-stop since I stopped drinking. I'm angry, weepy, cranky, and because I don't have anyone to talk to about my situation, I can tell I'm slipping into self-pity. I can tell that the suppressed emotions of a lifetime are about to hit me. So I'm here.
On the up side, even though I drank my entire adult (and teen) life, and I'm 50 years old now, I am not currently craving a drink. A helpful thought that I repeat to myself is, "I am not going to drink ever again, under ANY circumstance."
It's nice to read your posts and know I'm not alone. Thanks

Welcome to SR.
That should help. Just remember that when you are feeling better and the memory of how you feel now fades. The misery can fade. Don't let your commitment to sobriety fade.

Hi DeeDah! I was older too when I came to SR and finally got sober. I still need my daily dose of inspiration and courage. I hope you'll find being here a helpful part of your recovery - we're so glad to meet you.
hello, DeeDahDay,
check out the AVRT threads in the 'secular connections' forum farther down, as much there relates to and expands on your helpful statement of never drinking again no matter what.
welcome.

Welcome from me too. You are on your way!
You say you don't have anyone to talk to. Have you considered an AA meeting or if you are in an urban area (where they are more common) a SMART meeting?

Welcome D-Day.
I am glad you found this site.
All the suppressed emotion can really eat us up inside. It's can make us feel big time frustrated. Chronic frustration is not healthy.
Bottling up our feelings is not healthy.
I hear you....I've felt 'bottled up' a lot. It's good to vent however you can.
Writing is a good way to vent.
You can lay it all out in a private message to someone you trust on this site and since you've never met them in person and will likely never do so it's basically safe....to let it all out....everything you are ashamed of...things in your life that hurt you...it needs to come out or it will fester and cause bigger problems...
You can do this...you have more power than you realize....[smile] We're here for you...again, welcome, D-Day.
