The Ongoing Musings Of Sobriety

A few noticeable things

The desperate cravings are weaker. I still want to go out and buy a ton of alcohol but the feeling of "NEED" is happening a lot less.

Feel like I am sleeping a tiny bit better. I never was a big sleeper (six hours is plenty) but after the six I feel a little more refreshed.

Weight loss? Maybe not a huge amount and I'll have to weigh myself when I get home but I feel like I've lost maybe a kilo

Feeling pity for my work mate. He is almost certainly an alcoholic and I wouldn't preach to him about quitting anyway but seeing him drink himself into a stupor and fall asleep at work make me feel a bit sad for him.
I'm really not empathic at all, so that came as a big surprise.

Who knows what wonders another five days shall bring

Lots more wonders will indeed keep coming if you stay sober. It will be amazing, I promise you. Six months in, and I still write the things I notice, love and am amazed and grateful for down in my daily planner. Even the little stuff is cool!

Keep going!!

Nice to be looking at the positives!

I know I lost a little bit of weight... mostly noticable in my face.
Or at least my face isn't as puffy

The small differences are amazing. After the first couple of days I noticed a big difference in the color of my face. I used to be somehow both bright red and sallow looking at the same time. Now I look more normal. Also, the whites of my eyes are actually white!! Go figure. Day 11 here for me. I still sometimes really want to be drunk but I don't want to drink. Does that make sense? Anyway, I'm not drinking today. I'll worry about tomorrow when tomorrow comes... Keep on keepin on!!

Not to mention I got a refund for something I bought online and despite desperately wanting alcohol, I fought it and got phone credit instead.

Just thinking about how much money i'm going to save!

Day 6 noticeables

A very busy week ended up with me finishing work at 7am, getting home for 11am and just about to leave (8pm) to start work tomorrow morning two hundred miles away.

Normally my (afternoon) days off consist of getting drunk right away and sleeping it off, waking up and buying more.

I had to sleep today after my nightshift yet I still got more done in a few hours than I would do most non sober weekends.

Point 2 is now that I am abstaining I can look at others and reflect that my behaviour was probably similar when drunk.
I don't like this behaviour.

Note to all - I'd like to update this thread as and when I notice new things but I am unsure if it is possible to edit the title?

Cheers

day seven morning

Coffee tastes different.
As weird as that sounds, it really does.

From harsh bitterness to a mild chai flavour.

Yep

Whiter eyes, change of body odour, less sweat, skin not puffy, deeper sleep, and interestingly enough the NEED goes away quite quickly.

But the habit of "still want to get drunk" is still there. Getting drunk sadly is just an activity that we all enjoy/enjoyed.

Remember that euphoric sensation when you know a drink or a binge is coming? I personally want to look deeper into that, there has to be a reason why our bodies give us that euphoric feeling.

Day eight

I'm eating more often.
I think its most likely being used to the huge sugar intake from cider and my body is missing it.
Despite eating more I definitely definitely feel like I'm losing weight.

Day 9

Jesus I feel rough
Still no alcohol but feel like I've had a ton.
Weird red flush spots on nose and forehead

Drinking a shed load of water as i'm always so dehydrated.
Beer and cider are junk but they do contain water I am guessing

Its lunch time on this site and it has the smallest poxy canteen I've ever seen so I've gone out.
Im not with my usual crew so i've gone to a lovely park and sat chilling.
There's an off-licence just across the way but for the first time in forever, I don't want a beer.
I don't want the afternoon feeling of drowsiness and lethargy.
Plus I don't think I could stomach the taste right now either.

Pleased
