Aprils a special month for me - it's not only the month I got sober but the month one of my mentors here, the late CarolD, got sober too.

C'mon - let's do this thing

I've been waiting for this thread.

Although I quit only a couple of days ago. I know I need the positivity that comes from a new group. I'm in. I really want to succeed.

Good morning all. I joined the March thread but kinda got a bit lost.

So I'd like to make this thread my home if you don't mind. I'm 11 days sober today. I was sober for 2 years 7 months and know I can do it again, but sobriety this time around hasn't been easy.

Look forward to getting to know you all.

I've not quit again yet so probably don't belong here until I do. I've booked in for addiction therapy which starts on Friday and working up to going back to AA. Hopefully will start tapering down over the next few days.

Jeni26 - I also had 2.5 years sober but fell off the wagon in May 2012. My life has been a disaster since, don't go down the road I did, I watched your mails when you fell off the wagon and they broke my heart a bit as it could have been me writing them back in 2012. Hopefully you can keep to it this time.

Marathon man...what's stopping you quit again?

I have had to really change things around this time. I'm not relying on the things that got me sober last time to work again. My sponsor told me I needed a completely new experience and so that's what I'm doing.

Stay with us...reckon you and I could help each other.

April is a long month. Even though you're drinking at the start of it, you could be sober and free by the end.

And you Troy. I don't care who's drinking. If you want to quit...I mean REALLY want to quit, why not join us?

I hope you guys both decide to stick around - there's a lot of support here.

I found the more years I drank, not only was it harder to stop with each year, but I lost more & more of the things that were precious to me.

you know the old saying - the best time to plant a tree is 20 years ago...the second best time is today.

Jeni - It's not that I don't intend to quit but I started getting physical withdrawal last time I stopped so I'm starting a taper today which will take 4 or 5 days. I'm doing the same as you and mixing things up this time, that's the reason I've booked to see the counselor and hopefully see how my drinking fits in with the wider issues.

It does seem to be so much harder after a good stint of sobriety, as you've done it before it feels like it should be easy but suddenly all the tools you used last time no longer work this time.

My wife has said she's leaving me with our baby if I don't make it stick this time so at least I've got some motivation. Although I quit when the baby was born and thought that would be motivation enough but obviously not.

Have you considered seeing a Dr instead MM?
It's less tortuous and safer.

Dee - yeah I appreciate that and you're right I should see a doctor but I currently have fantastic life insurance which I've paid for the last 8 years which alcohol dependence would void so not a route I can really take.

Ok
If you get into trouble tho, do seek professional help.
Good health is priceless.

I'd be in way better shape now if I'd seen a Dr at the time.

Well my sober date was some years ago and it was not even in April, but I consider April fools day a sort of addopted sobriety date, just because I seems so appropriate. Best wishes to you all.

Play nice we are all here to help each other.
