yet another problem with relapse - possible death
yet another problem with relapse - possible death
although I have seen this many times over the years
I first witnessed this back in 1971 with my friend Scott
Scott was known to drink booze heavy
and on most occasions
he washed down 15 to 20 reds (SECONAL) with his booze
I had heard that Scott had gotten clean and sober
but
he returned to drinking and using
and was spending the night with his girlfriend
reportedly while drunk he ate around 20 reds
Scott never woke up
he was found suffocated with his head in his pillow
a major problem for us is if we relapse is
in our minds we think that we can take the same amount
as we did before when we were doing some heavy using
in many cases this causes death
because our bodies are not ready for such an amount
after being dry for a while
six or seven years ago
I would drive the motorhome down to the lake
park
turn on the TV
pop 5 or more Valium
and wash them down with some strong booze drink
after some time sober once
I went back to this old sad routine
when I woke up after some heavy sleep
my right ear was ringing
what happened
not sure
but
I think I came close to not waking up
my ear is still ringing today
helps to remind me what's really going on
a good life without booze or drugs

Something I experienced during a relapse.
I got clean/sober. Life sucked and I didn't know how to handle it. I used again. It sucked. So what was there left for me? That desperation...because even my old "go to"...drugs and booze..failed me. So my inclination was to pile it higher and deeper....good old addict thinking...and yup, came pretty close to dying in my puke.
Somehow I got the idea, since piling on more booze and drugs didn't work, to try to pile SOBRIETY on higher and deeper. Apparently a wise decisions as I am not only alive, but puke free!

I don't take it for granted today
nice story told Threshold regarding your recovery
I also went back to the old booze and drugs too many times
slow learner here I guess
it still amazes me that I'm sober today
and
as I did before take my sobriety for granted
I don't take being sober for granted today
have a blessed day
