Asking for prayers for an extra special cat tomorrow
My pets are my second set of kids. I'm still recuperating from the loss of 4 dogs in a little over a year, and now I have a cat, Velcro who will be having surgery to remove an eye tomorrow. He has advanced glaucoma in that eye.
He showed up on my doorstep back in 2004 when I was director for our small humane society, so I offered to foster him until he was adopted. Nine months later there had been no inquiries, so I adopted him. He's a pretty non-descript grey tiger stripe, which are a dime a dozen around here.
He's aptly named because he's a people cat for sure. He's the first one on someone's lap when they visit, and has to be up in the bed with me at night, the side of his face touching the side of mine.
I consider him a miracle cat of sorts too as he was jaundiced when I first took him in, and the vet ran labs and said he thought it was either liver disease, a tumor in the liver, or a long-standing infection. Well, we did long-term antibiotics hoping it was the infection, and the jaundice cleared right up.
He also has several bb's just under the skin, likely shot by idiot kids before he showed up on my doorstep. The vet estimated him around a year old when he showed up at my house, so he was probably roughing it outside all that time.
I know he will adjust fine with just one eye, but of course it's a concern till he's home, and recovered. Thanks!

I will definitely send extra good thoughts for Velcro tomorrow. I love kitties, have three of my own, and keep a bowl of food outside for the neighborhood strays. I have become the old cat lady of my little town, but that's okay with me.

I was just posting on ((Least's)) thread how I always say an extra prayer for all the furbabies and feathered friends of my SR friends, often not knowing their names, but figure God knows I will now add Velcro to that list...BTW, I LOVE the name! What's funny is Anvil and I usually call my cat Elvis the "velcro cat" because he sticks to me like glue.
I totally understand worrying about him until the surgery is over...recently had Mots (Mouth-Of-The-South) neutered and was a wreck until they told me he was awake and living up to his name - bellering at everyone
Sending cyberhugs to you, and many, many prayers for you and Velcro!

Amy, maybe Elvis and Velcro are distant relatives!
I don't know if she will send him home tomorrow later on, or keep him overnight.
If he does come home tomorrow, he'll be put in my bedroom with the curtains drawn and the door shut.
I didn't realize till I worked for my old vet that anesthesia acts like a hallucinogenic on cats. They are hypersensitive to light and sound. I imagine he'll be on some pain meds too for a few days.

((DeVon)) - I asked my vet for pain meds for Mots because the last time he had to have surgery for an abscess in his neck, he was extremely angry about not being allowed to go outside, confused (trying to stick his nose in my nose, tried to bite me, but walking around like a drunk cat) and extremely loud...no one got any sleep for a couple of nights. They gave me something this time and he slept through his recovery period...much better. He had to stay overnight because he was bleeding a bit, but he was fine...his mama (me) was a "nervous nelly" until he came home....sigh.
Hugs and prayers!

I sure will pray for Velcro's speedy recovery. I know how special your critters are to you, as are mine, and will say special prayers for your kitty.
(((hugs))) for you both. and hugs from my kitties and doggies to you and yours.

Sandy and I send our best wishes. I know how worrying it is when a cat has surgery. Mine have reacted strangely to anaesthetics too. Poor Sandy had to have several teeth pulled out this year due to stomatitis and I worried like a champion but he was fine.

Prayers your way. Old PaintRag has since gone to the Rainbow Bridge, but she had very good drugs for her last operation. (She had the patch!) She was quite happy the morning after, chasing phantom mice around the room! I could tell she was smiling.
The office that did Paintrag's surgery had a resident cat who had had both eyes removed. He spent a lot of time, I was told, in his favorite perch in the cat tree in the office. I wiggled my fingers around the perch, and the blind kitty could still "catch" them (Sound of fingers on the carpet? Vibration? Who knows?)
