Hi, another newbie
Good Morning LucyI and welcome to SR!
Ok, tell us a little about yourself to start.
We know you're not here to talk about who you think should win on American Idol lol
What's going on with you, why'd you seek us out?
Judy

I'll answer any question, but find it difficult to know where to start talking about myself. I'll have a go -
Um...well I'm 28, have had problems for 14 years, I'm quite ill and trying to work out how to detox as I have responsibilities, until this week I had never spoken to another alcoholic (still wondering why drs had never told me about this sort of thing) I'd like to avoid dying, which consultants have told me is close, but I haven't found the way yet.

That's a great start. Thanks for sharing that.
You say you've had problems for 14 years, is this with alcohol? Drugs? Both?
Me,I'm a grateful recovering addict/alcoholic, I'm 45, used since age 11, been in recovery by the Grace of God since my surrender date July 25, 2005.
You don't need to try to figure everything out at this minute. Kind of a things us alcoholics/addicts do, we want the answers NOW, and we always want the easier, softer way. Instant fix! Why do you think we used?
Take a breath and know that there is hope and there is help.
Keep sharing if you like, read other threads, whatever you are comfortable with. I'll be here for the next 1/2 hour or so then I'll be off of here for about an hour. But I'll be back after that. But, as you can see, there are people on here 24/7 from literally around the world who all share the struggles that you are going through. But at the same time you will find alot of support, guidance and love here. No one has all the answers except God. Check out the thread Ann posted I believe it's titled The Language of Letting Go. It's awesome.
Hang with us as long as you like.
God Bless and thank God . . . Just for Today

Thankyou for your post.
I have never used drugs - luckily I had no idea where to buy any!
Just alcohol, which is bad enough.
I realise I do hope for quick answers, but it also does need to be quick now, or I will die.
I will read the post you mentioned.

Hi LucyI - Just wanted to welcome you here, before I go tottering off to bed.
I'm 28 days sober today and I promise you that if I can do this you will be able to also. This is a great place to start. I'm usually wandering around the forum late at night. I look forward to getting to know you better. It's tough but oh so worth it. Take care. Read, post ask questions and repeat as often as needed. For me that is every single day.

Thank you, I think your night may be at a different time to mine...
I try everything that is suggested and hope to save myself. I don't know if I can get to an aa meeting today, will see.
Another question I have is, is there a polite way to deter physical contact at in person meetings?

Welcome to SR Lucy
Have you seen a Doc, I think you aid you have. Well good to see one and have an honest chat with them as detoxing can be dangerous.
Ongoing stuff is about finding support or a program, there are many programs, SMART, NA, AA here is a link to some info http://www.soberrecovery.com/forums/...-programs.html
Then basically work the program and use the support. I make sure I am around other recovering addict a lot and talk to some every day as well as post here.
Don't forget that it takes time to recover, we got sick one day at a time and we get well one day at a time, so relax and enjoy the journey of recovery

Hi,
Yes I have seen quite a few Drs, I'm finding aa very different (in a very good way) to medical professionals.
Anything I do is dangerous, since I have had/have, pancreatitus, dehydration, jaundice, alcoholic hepatitis, liver cirrhosis, thread veins, infections, gastro enteritis, pancreatic fissure causing enzyme leak and collapsed lung, reduced blood clotting and oesteopania (thus broken bones) I suppose a few Drs is an understatement!

Hi Lucy and welcome to SR. I've had pancreatitis and alcoholic hepatitis as well and it was a wake up call. Afterwards I quit for six months, then started drinking again. You doctors are right, there is always the possiblity that the next time you drink you could end up in the hospital with at least a 20% chance of death, even if you make it to a doctor. I do hope you can manage to stay sober. Stick around and learn about treatment options and stuff here. Glad to hear you are going to AA.

Just back from a meeting, am very tired - not used to doing anything with people.
I only just managed to get there, but on the way back, there was a couple - girl and boy who were not in aa but happened to be on the train. They were so drunk they couldn't walk straight or remember how to get home.
I physically took them home, listening to them talk on the way, as they looked likely to fall into the road.
I don't know how it was possible, assume just will power, which I have heard makes the impossible happen.
My feet have become blisters and everything hurts but it was worth it. I've seen what I could be like by watching other people.
I must find a way.
