So, we thought all was going well, until the doctors came this morning to my mom's room to inform her that they're going to have to amputate one of her toes. Seems the infection has spread to there and either they remove the one toe now or in a week remove all the toes or possibly her entire foot. She was really, really upset about the whole thing. She has rheumatoid arthritis and has been fighting it for 24 years. It's completely crippled most of her body, including her feet. So, she was really happy when the doctor told her that they were going to reconstruct her feet and although the skin is already damaged, they would be shaped normally, and then she gets this news. It's hard because I just don't know what to say to her. I can tell that she's really upset over the whole thing, and is really depressed over it. I just feel sooo bad for her and just wish there was something that could help her get through all of this. But, moreso I just don't understand why sooo much has to happen to her, why she just can't be healthy for 5 minutes in her life.
J is sooo upset these past couple of days. He really doesn't fully understand everything that's going on, and since I can't take off of work, he's pretty much getting tossed around between different babysitters. Been crying on and off for pretty much no reason at all.
I think I just needed to vent. Thanks guys!

Never,
Oh, how heartbreaking it is to watch our loved ones suffer, especially when we would love to "fix" the problem - but there is nothing we can do.
Prayers for you, your Mom & J - hoping things will seem brighter soon.
While your busy taking care of her, please remember to take care of YOU,
Rita

((((Corine)))) I'm sorry for the set back...Perhaps saying what you expressed...that you don't know what to say...it is sad and horrible and you just wish she could have a break would be something your mom would like to hear? Having our feelings; our fears and pain validated sometimes is comforting.
I continue to prayer for you all...Poor J; in situations like this it is so hard for little ones to understand and they sense our concern and stress. I hope you get some chance for a few minutes snuggle time with him and rest for you!

I agree with the others...what will help her is just having you there. I couldn't think of anything more that I would want than that if it were me. I hope you and J can take some time to just relax- with maybe some coloring books and fresh playdough? ( it works for me!)
You are doing all that you can to be both a good daughter and a good mommy. I'm hoping that you won't lose sight of that. k?

You're mom is blessed to have such a loving, supportive daughter. I hope you can find some time to snuggle with J...Please know that you and your mom are in my thoughts and prayers tonight...

aawww, sweetie. I'm so sorry 'bout your mom. Sending prayers for strength and acceptance in all this.
I remember when my dad had his stroke. He was unhealthy most of his life.
Heart attacks, diabetic, ect.
Once he started with the strokes, they had to remove his right leg from the knee down. He just wasn't the same after that.
We'd go to the nursing home to visit and he would just cry and look so pitiful the whole time we were there. It broke my heart.
I know she's devastated about the loss and I'm sending tender hugs out to her tonight, but gosh, it could be so much worse. She may get to that understanding eventually. In the meantime, be gentle with her and yourself. I'm sure this is taking alot out of you too. J is feeling it too, I guess. God love'em. Give his a squeeze from me and I hope he finds some comfort soon too.
Love ya,
Linda
