Chill....That commercial I saw yrs ago
was that of Zoloft. Everything in that
commercial was exactly how I was feeling,
so I went to my physician and told them
about it and how I related exactly to it.

I told them I was in recovery a good
many yrs and that if anything was administed
to me that absolutely didn't want anything
that was narcotic or habit forming that
would affect or interfere withy my addiction
recovery.

That was top priority and made extremely
ware of to my physicians because doctors
will prescribe almost anything THEY want
and will, would, could set us back and keep
us hooked.

Physicians are there to help us by
all means to achieve a better quality
of life. To keep us alive for sure.

Over the yrs ive read or heard of cases
where folks using Zoloft was dangerous
to them. I don't know what other mental,
physical, emotional, physcological issues
they had with in themselves to cause them
harming themselves or others.

Just remember, each and every one
of us is made up differently inside and
out. What one thing that work for them
may not work for another, so it is very
very important to get evaluated by those
capable, knowledgeable in those areas
you are looking for help in.

I tried a number of medicines all with
different side affects until one worked
well with my body and it took a good
yr.

Each time I tried one, I had to allow
this med to adjust to me and if it didn't
work or made me feel horrible, in working
closely with my doctor and nurses, they
were able to find one that agreed with
me.

Just like alcohol, when meds enter
our system they travel the bloodstream
and go directed to the brain and areas
of the body its intended to do so.

I remember when I entered rehab
27 yrs ago, I sat amongst folks in for
so many different addictions. Not
just alcohol. There was Zanax and
other meds I was not familiar with
or had no idea folks could get addicted
on.

Folks are still getting addicted to
meds and it keeps them sick until
it is out of their bodies.

It has taken me yrs to be aware
of lots of stuff, addictions folks
have and to realize that they all
have been around for yrs taking
folks down left and right.

Being aware, asking questions, and
working closely and honestly with
your doctor will help you achieve
a heathier way of life and continue
to learn and incorporate a program
of recovery as your guideline to remaining
clean and sober.

Oh gosh!

I'm just SO desperate right now that I'm willing to take risks I guess, I heard people getting well on this drug.

I will explain every concern with the Dr and see what's up from there.

I just need some REST from the hell in my mind.

Zoloft was not a good match for me, but as Sharon shared in her post it's important to communicate with your prescriber and yes we will all respond differently to medications. What didn't work for someone else may be just perfect for you.

I've been on zoloft for quite a while and it works fairly well for me for depression and a little with the anxiety. There are mountains of different medications on the market and it often times does take some trial and error to see what works best. You doc/psychiatrist should be able to get you in the right direction for medications.

When I saw that commercial my marriage
was about to go thru another change where
we would be empty nesters. Our kids were
on campus now in college.

Me, I thought with just my husband
and I we would become closer and
have a new out look on our long term
marriage.

So we went to a marriage councilor
first then I talked about the commercial
I saw and how it described exactly how
I had been feeling for a good while now.

I wasn't prescribed Zoloft but was given
something generic which didn't work
well with my system. Then it took almost
a yr trying different generics before something
agreed with me with little to no side effects.

Anyway.....the meds did brighten my outlook
on life and how I was feeling, but it didn't save
our 25yr marriage.

I eventually returned to my hometown
here to Baton Rouge and remained on
my meds for a total of 10 yrs. when after
we had that devastating and historic
flood and couldn't get to my doctor,
I made a decision to halt them.

My dosage was as low as they could
be and thought I would give it a try
living without them. It seemed that
I would be more nervous over those
10 yrs because I had to make an appointment
just to see the doctor for a refill.

It was more aggravating or maybe just
an inconvience because I'm hadly ever
sick and don't like going to the doctor.

Then to get close to running out or
making sure I'm covered if we go on
a trip....sheesh.....

Anyway.....

I did get off them and yes I remember
feeling awful for awhil reminding myself
that these meds were controlling my
parts of my brain if that makes sense.
Doing its part in helping me feel less
anxious or depressed and would take
time for that crap to get out of my
system and my body to be resume
on it natural way.

These meds weren't miracle meds
but they did help when I needed them.
Taking the edge off just enough to
be able to communicate.

Now that I not longer need them
or have to depend on them, life is
okay and cool. As much as I think
they helped me with feel calmer,
I am able to live as calmer now maybe
because I'm happier, content, freer
and more at ease than I ever have
been in my life.

Like I said, everyone is different, but
folks sharing their experiences, strengths
and hopes can help in seeing where it
may help you.

Hi Chilled,

This may or may not be helpful....I was put on Zoloft several years ago for anxiety and panic attacks....BUT I was also drinking on top of it. (Duh!) I was out of my mind for a while & it really threw me over the edge. Who knows, it may have helped if I didn't mix it with alcohol.....just be sure not to drink if you decide to take it.

I've been on zoloft (sertraline) for a long time and it's helped me a lot. Any time I've run out for longer than a few days, I've noticed depression comes back. I'll probably always take it and that's ok with me.

Remember, there are a lot of antiD's out there so keep trying them until you find one that works for you.

Like least, I too have been on Sertraline (Zoloft) for many years. It was prescribed to me for depression and has worked well for me.

I'm just like least. I've been on Zoloft for 2 years now and if I don't take it for longer than a couple days, the old feelings of depression and anxiety try sneaking in.

Never been on zoloft, but when I was in my early teens I was put on anafranil (clomipramine) for ocd and depression. It worked quite well, and is often considered one of the best meds for ocd. It's an older tricyclic which is both good and bad. Probably more predictable in how people react, and the side effects are more predictable.. mostly sweating, dry mouth, occasional heartburn. Tricyclics are also typically a bit easier to come off of.

I have been taking ads for a long while, for depression and I used to take fluoxetine until I had a bad reaction by mixing it with alcohol! Nowadays I take paroxetine for depression, and take propranolol for anxiety attacks that started to occur about a year ago.
It's good to work closely with your prescriber and find what works for the individual. Many different meds for many different people.
