well, well
a drug is a drug is a drug

alcohol, illegal drugs, prescription drugs, caffiene, nicotine, sugar
even food can be a problem

the substance becomes a problem
when it overtakes your life

Actually, IMO, the drug isn't really all that relevant. It's the behavior that's the problem.

First things first, stop alcohol, get used to not having it, THEN worry about the rest. Some people can quit everything at once, but I couldn't. Alcohol was my big problem. Ciggies are hard but they are finally out of the picture, coffee too. They need to go eventually. Don't fret about it too much, is my advice, not drinking is it right now. Unless you feel up to giving it all up, going through a heap of detox and sleepless nights for a week. Could take up yoga, meditation or skydiving to fill in the time. My brother ate a whole heap of apples. Whatever works, but they aren't healthy habits and for me I knew that they would have to go eventually too, you are obviously thinking about it, it will happen.

Congrats on not drinking, yeah!!!

Cheers,
brigid

My belief, is that as alcoholics we also suffer with the broader disease of "Addiction".

As addicts we tend to substitute one drug for another.

I too substituted alcohol with increased tobacco and coffee consumption ( among other things)

It took me years to finally give up the cigarettes but as yet I am still to find the willingness to give up coffee.

Coffee is not making my life unmanagable but if the day ever comes when it begins to I know I will have the courage to let it go.
