Today is the day!
Hello
Today is the day.
It is the first day of fall. I am not going to fail and I am not going to make any more excuses. Today I stop drinking once again. However, I am also going to stop smoking too!
My personal challenge is to go one single season.
I am in it to win it over the next three months!

This might sound weird but consider setting your sights a little lower - it's great to be enthusiastic but alcoholics have a way with "all or nothing" thinking. We are either the best or the worst, all in or not at all, winning or losing... etc. It helps some people in recovery to try and think in less absolute terms.
Instead of "I am not going to fail," how about "I don't plan to drink today." The first sentence is impossible because to know one isn't going to fail (ever) is to assume one knows the future, which of course none of us do. But you can handle today - not planning to drink today is doable. Get to bed sober and you win. Worry about tomorrow, tomorrow.
Also might sound a little odd, but consider not quitting cigarettes at the same time. Both alcohol and nicotine addictions are extremely hard to break. But alcohol has the ability to kill you right now via blood alcohol levels, drunk driving, household falls, passing out and falling, mixing with pills etc.. whereas cigarettes can and will kill you but often take some time to do so. Just a suggestion but again, maybe moderate your plans and focus on the more lethal of the two...just for today. Hang in there.

I am very newly sober, so take my "advice" with a grain of salt. Last time I tried to quit, I was very ambitious that I was not only going to get and stay sober, but I was going to diet and be in amazing shape! Guess which one didn't happen? Anyway, I agree with this:
