I am very newly sober, so take my "advice" with a grain of salt. Last time I tried to quit, I was very ambitious that I was not only going to get and stay sober, but I was going to diet and be in amazing shape! Guess which one didn't happen? Anyway, I agree with this:

Also might sound a little odd, but consider not quitting cigarettes at the same time. Both alcohol and nicotine addictions are extremely hard to break. But alcohol has the ability to kill you right now via blood alcohol levels, drunk driving, household falls, passing out and falling, mixing with pills etc.. whereas cigarettes can and will kill you but often take some time to do so.
