Passed a HUGE test
Happy Birthday LaFemme!! It's nice to spend the day with people you love doing what makes you happy. Don't think you'll forget this Birthday any time soon. I'm so glad your Mom is okay and you handled it without drinking.
Best Birthday Wishes To You! :day

Happy Birthday! What a great gift, all the way around.
You know, I live alone, and at the end of my drinking I was having trouble swallowing (booze still went down OK, but swallowing food, vitamins, etc., was becoming difficult), and I could visualize myself choking to death at home, alone. There was a Six Feet Under episode like that--they found this poor woman who was completely isolated, weeks after she'd choked to death at home.
It was one of the things that motivated me to quit.
So glad your mom is OK.

Happy birthday indeed!!! congrats on yourday and that test was really huge.....i'm sure you were shaken and upset. i'm glad your mother is OK.
when my daughter was young she used to have sleepovers and i made a lot of mexican food for the kids as it was cheap and they liked it....one of the girls started to choke at the table on a nacho....i grabbed the kid (about 5 feet tall and over 100 lbs) out of the chair and picked her off her feet when i rammed my fist into her abdomen (think a bear hug from behind and thrust up under the ribs area in the center)....the nachoes were dislodged....but it is very scary....i didn't even think....the only thing I knew about the Heimlich? was from reading about it in the old Stephen King novel "Christine"...(he was very descriptive about a girl choking on a hamburger).
i think you describing this unfortunate accident as a test is right on.....and i agree with Dee....you are doing some solid work...i admire your methods too.
(you did not reward yourself with a drink, but i think you can reward yourself with any other small treat to celebrate....i hear Sephora calling you):day1

(((LaFemme))) - I'm late, but HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!
I've had to do the Heimlich maneuver, a couple times on my mom...it IS scary...so glad the chef was there!
Glad you enjoyed your day, and your mom is okay.
Hugs and prayers,
Amy

Despite my sobriety I'm not sure I had a clear head last night....my sister and I were hugging each other sobbing as my mother turned blue...I was inches from hysterical...my sister used to have Grand Mal seizures and I never flinched...blood and gore no problem but this...I fell apart...I fully admit it.

I have been sober for 5 days and was struggling a bit because it's Friday night and that's when I really didn't have shame drinking because, wasn't everyone? So I joined sr and came across this post for some reason.Fate I think. My birthday happens to be 12th of march so a day apart and the reason I started drinking or my excuse is that almost 12 years ago on 29th October 1999 I watched my 9 month old daughter choke to death.I drank to forget the first year then cleaned up for the sake of my remaining daughter who was 3 at the time and is now 15.Over the years it got worse and But also long periods of sobriety.I was drinking 2 bottles of wine a day but you wouldn't even know it.Have such a high tolerance it barely touched the sides.Always the perfect housewife, always help with the homework and house is clean, dinner on table.Just the inside that's a mess
