No Wrong Way..
No Wrong Way..
My (Late) Sponsor Told Me Before he Passed Away.. "There is No Wrong Way To Stay Sober" He was a Big Book Thumper Too! (but not a know it all) He Helped a Lot of people Before he Died.. i Think the thing that impressed me Most about Him was his Open Mindedness.. There are Many Ways to Get and Stay Sober! (thank God!)

I agree.....
Just look around.....many of us are winning over alcohol.
Some SR members are not useing a structured traditional
program.....and some are.
The point is to find something that clicks for you.....
then you too can find the joy and peace of sobriety!
For our newer members....here is a link for you

One of my favourite sayings relevant to recovery is 'different strokes for different folks' - its hard for some people to grasp the fact that their way of recovery cant work for everyone... we're all different
Well i was sober and my wife was still close to leaving.
She would suggest that maybe there is a wrong way.........she would suggest that sobriety alone dont change the mind or the person.
Much of my "list" was committed while sober and insane........wrong?....
For me the wrong way was expecting life to light up without a drink.
and continued to cause harm and destruction.
I suppose you could play around with the word "wrong".......
did i get it wrong when i wanted to put a gun to my head and i hadnt had a drink for a good while.....wrong way?........or just blind to the truth.
A note to anyone that reads this.......who is sober and suffering.
try the 12 steps of alcoholics anonymous..........if you are an alcoholic of my type, i believe you will find the answer to your dilemma.
just me.

OK...maybe the question is better phrased as 'no wrong way to be in recovery?'
Now, anybody who wants to argue what 'recovery' is, form a orderly queue... LOL
I see happy clean and sober people here @ SR living full lives.
That's the important bit for me.

There are plenty of wrong ways to get/stay sober.
Go to any treatment center in this Country and ask the patients.
hearing different perceptions for me is interesting........i only have my own experience to draw on so thats my attended point to chuck into the mix..
i dont close my mind to others perception or experience........its just might not be mine......
stand at ease dee...........im in a good mood today....lol..lol..lol..lol......

It is good to know the even tho I share a great many of the same symptoms of addiction (inability to stop at certain times, increased tolerance, compulsion to use, withdraws, etc,) that other people suffer with. Yet there are many different ways to recover from an illness that would have me locked up in prison or dead without effective treatment.

Hmm but then again you could be in complete denial and i don't suppose an insane person would recognise they were insane anyway...probably best to do them anyway

Anyway that keeps you sober & sane is good in my books. I got sober in AA but today I use Zen Buddhism and humanism. I think the 12 steps are a great way to get sober but my mind isn't so closed that I think it is the only way.

IMO if someone continues to suffer as the result of not-drinkin, then they still suffer from alcoholism. Which is not what true recovery is designed to do.
Old Buddhist saying:
"In this life pain is mandatory, suffering is optional".
I agree that to be in recovery, which for this purpose I will define as sober and happy about it, you do need to change. The thing is, there are a million ways to bring about change and 12 steps is just one of those ways.
