Alcoholic Label
"I like the label drunk too..."
Love it. Gets right to the point without messing around. To me it is kinda pointless obsessing about the proper term. Knowing in your heart that alcohol etc. is not good for you and keeping that real is what it's all about to me.

I am a recovering alcoholic now. I used to be like you a bing-drinking drunk. I realised that prison, institutions, death was where I would end up if I kept it up.
I was a drunk, then admitted the truth that I'm an alcoholic.
For me personally I regard the accepting the term alcoholic crucial in standing a chance at sobriety. It don't matter if you're a park bench tramp or a high-rolling banker it cuts to the chase and takes any ego out of it all.
I was a drunk now I'm a grateful recovering alcoholic.

Hell, call me purple if it's going to make me better in the end...
You have said "I abuse alcohol"... there are lots of labels that you could apply, or not apply... personally, I think the "label" issue is a red herring.
Do you feel there's something wrong in your life involving drinking? Do you want to fix it? Those are the important questions.

I don't remember the last time I thought about "alcoholic" as a label. . . I wonder if there are diabetics who think of "diabetic" as a label.
I'd say come to grips with what you already seem to know is true.
Even if it's not completely apparent now, keeping doing this:
"I have always been a binge drinker that looses control and blacks out."
and it will soon become apparent.
Pardon me for being blunt.

Angler = Fisherman. They mean the same thing.
Mason = Brick layer. They mean the same thing.
Boring = Dull. They mean the same thing.
Problem Drinker = Alcoholic. They mean the same thing.
You can argue forever about the best "label" to use, or you can do something about it. I hope you choose the latter.

Drunk :-) or alcoholic
Labels or names I come up with now are better than the ones that I and others came up with when I was drinking. I was calling myself some nasty things in the mirror.
Start with "a hole" and move south cause they never got any nicer than that. "Alcoholic" was a step up. And I was headed to being labeled "Inmate 45785" or "Here lies Chops" 1976 - 2008.
