Sounds like an event you can't miss, which is fair enough - if you were getting married, and 17 days sober, you wouldn't probably call off the wedding.
But make concrete plans and keep not drinking in your mind, the very very front of your mind, at all times. Omega Man has some good advice. Tell someone else. Bring things to remind you. Don't get carried away in the heat of the moment. Don't say "Oh f*** it" at any point. Good luck.

Question: When is a Championship Football game like a broken shoelace?
Answer: When we use it as an excuse to drink.
People ask me how I stay sober at certain events where everyone else is drinking. Weddings, Golf Tournaments, Company Picnic, etc...
I drank at those events for the same reason I drank while watching Gilligans Island reruns. Because I'm an alcoholic, no other reason!
If I can make it through a Gilligans Island rerun without drinking I can surely make it through a football game.
Why do normal drinkers drink at events???? I don't know.

Avoiding drinking situations at your age (I assume 20's) is not always possible. I mean most 20 something year olds tend to drink to some extent. Avoiding picking the drink up will be up to you though.

I am home from the game, and a pretty good game it was....Pats win, I'm happy, I'm sober, easy as pie not to drink. Had the urge to drink when we first got there, but said screw it and drank a coke, ate some food, tailgated. After that initial wanting of a beer, I got over it in about a min flat. Don't know how, don't know why, definitly not something I thought I could or would ever do, but hell the game is still fun even sober. I honestly doubted myself going in, I kept telling myself that I was gonna drink, it was gonna be ok if I had....then for some reason I got there and said I wasn't gonna drink. I'm kind of amazed at myself.
My son was at the game. He said they carried one guy out of the clubhouse because he was to drunk to stand up on his own.
That guy missed a great game..18-0
You had seen a game you will remember for the rest of your life.
Sober sure is better.
I watched from home as I added more pellets into the stove.
Man was it ever cold outside today.
