I'm ready to take that step, but!
I'm ready to take that step, but!
I know I need to start going to AA meetings. I know there are a lot of them the problem is finding out about them. I called the number in the book and asked if they had a list of local meetings. They said they were only an answering service no lists but they could tell me about when and where they were. The problem is they only have a few to choose from and I know there are many more. I don't know how to go about finding a complete listing of local meetings. It is getting discouraging.
I would love to find one closer to home. I don't drive, and can't afford a cab, and my anxiety almost precludes taking a bus. It seems like it was easier a few years back. But then, I had a spouse to drive me :/

I found the meeting times online, have you searched for AA in your state/city?
You're in for a hell of an experience. Best decision I have ever made, for so long I felt I was unique and hopeless. I'm a garden variety alchoholic, and all this time I thought I was different.

Plese see if this link helps you find AA meetings in your area
Alcoholics Anonymous : Central Offices, Intergroups and Answering Services for (U.S. and Canada)
It's been my experience that when you attend one
they will give you more information on active groups.
Enjoy!

Sorta Kinda:
Welcome to SR.
This will help you find local meetings close to home:
Kent County Central Office > Home
Dan:
Here's for Texas, pick your area: lol
Texas Alcoholics Anonymous Intergroup Texas
Call the Central Office closest to you, ask them for a meeting that is close to you, once you are at the meeting you can pick up a meeting directory at that meeting.
I am glad you are getting closer to attending an AA meeting.
Love and hugs,

Where in Texas are you located? I live in Dallas--and have info on many different groups all over the state--mainly larger areas such as Austin, Houston, etc. If you don't find the info from the others suggestions--let me know. I'll be glad to help!
Hey everyone I don't have anything to report yet! It was a very busy weekend.
Hey Spiritual Seeker nice to meet you and sense we have not met you can not know me and I'm sure you can not know the intents of my heart like God does. If I was looking for negative feedback I would go to a bar and ask for directions to the nearest AA meeting. If you only want to critisize the find someone else or look at your signature. Sorry to be so harsh but I had my fill of negativity when I was drinking. I consider sobriety to be a positive change and I would like to keep it that way.
Sounds like you have no more excuses not to go

tkdan....this forum is not for people to only tell you what you want to hear and all positive insight.
Its also for the truth, as we see it.
I think you know that cus your reaction to what S.S. wrote is very intense. And come on...lets face it...you've talked alot about going to a meeting, and havent gone yet.
We know youre scared...but that fear wont keep you sober, hun. Face the fear.....and find victory!

I remember deciding going to my first meeting. Telling my wife was the hardest for me. It was like to me admitting to every lie I had ever told her. Next was just walking in. Once that is done you will be on your way. You will wonder what was I so scared of.
