Liquor commercials
Liquor commercials
Is it just me, or is there more liquor commercials on TV than there has been in holidays past? These bother me a little, it actually looks real good for half a second then my brain kicks in and I think of my last hangover.
LOL I rmember one we had over here when I was about 1 year sober, and it actually made my mouth water !
it was for Baileys, and had a HUGE frosty glass and lots of ice !
I could almost taste it !

I've definitely noticed this!
The liquor/beer commercials were so frequent while I was trying to watch the baseball playoffs that I had to Tivo everything and watch it slightly delayed so that I could fast forward through them.
And agreed... some of those commercials really catch you in that, 'wow that looks good' trap.
:wtf2

I have to admit some of those ads make drinking look glamorous and fun. I have to remind myself of the reality of it all.
You two quit arguing over football it does not matter who goes the Cowboys will send them home crying.

Here's been my trick for the last week, focus on the prescription drug commercials.
I've been making a list everytime I see one. I swear they must have a Rx drug for every condition you can think of. I now have a list of 15 drugs on my list.
Viagra, Celebrex, Plavix, Flomax, etc, etc. It's been a fun exercise. I didn't even know there was such a thing as "restless leg syndrom".

I am going to have to try that one. I usually flip channels during commercials as I really don't like to watch any of them, with the exception of the Super Bowl ones. Great idea though.
I can't think of the name of the drug, but it is an erectile dysfunction drug with a somber warning by the announcer "If you have an erection that lasts longer than 4 hours, you should call your physician".
Well I don't take this drug, but if I had a 4 hour erection, I wouldn't stop with the Dr., I would call EVERYBODY.

BTW I have a strong feeling the Pats are unbeatable this year.

Taz -that's the fun part. You take drug A for problem A, and then you take drug B to deal with side effects of drug A, then drug C to deal with the side effects of drug B and on and on.
I'm trying to see how many I can link together.
Way too much time on my hands, so glad to be back to work on Wed.

Probably just the alcoholic part of your mind noticing them. The non-alcoholic watching the same tv probably doesn't notice.

I agree that this might be the case. I posed the question to a non-alcoholic friend of mine out of curiosity and she said that unless it triggers a specific memory for her, she doesn't even notice the booze ads, it just gets ignored like all the other commercials.
