Goodperson,
From what I am told, a non-alcoholic person can have a drink to relax or at the end of a tiring day - maybe a couple. Normal folks can safely use the sedative and euphoric effects of alcohol, it seems. I've even known "normies" who can decide to cop a buzz, do so, and still not cop such a big one that they are sick the next morning. So why not see if that works for you?
I cannot speak to the cravings of a non-alcoholic for alcohol. All I know about is my own, and they stem from my alcoholic, busted thinker.
I wish you the best of luck in your chosen path.
