GP I know you don't want to 'stress' him out by taking him to the vet, however, he could have an infected tooth (very common in older cats) and needs amoxicillin to clear up the infection so he can eat. Infection will also make him listliss.

How about putting him in a carrier and carrying him off to the vet. Although cats do not like to take meds (pill form especially) I have never had too much trouble giving mine liquid amoxicillin when it has been prescribed. Even my 'cat from hell.' (when it comes to medications, lol).

I think it might be time to get him to the vet, to verify what is wrong with him and possibly fix him for now so he has some years left yet.

Please think about it.

J M H O

Love and hugs,

I'm sorry your cat is suffering and you must get vet attention for him. It's not right to let him suffer with no pain relief. We owe it to our animals to do what is best for them and doing nothing isn't what's best. If you won't take him in the car then get a vet to come to your house.

Sorry glass... if it makes you realize you're not alone, one day in 2001, I woke up to find my cat that I adopted *who only had one eye* a month back, just DEAD when I found him... I couldn't even stand it, but I had to bury him, alone, when I was only 14. Get a new cat I highly recommend, a kitten, for a fresh new start.

Hey everyone. Sorry to leave you hanging. I have a job now so I don't post as often.

Fat's is hanging in there. He doesn't seem to be getting any worse, at least. His diet isn't great, but he IS eating. He's lethargic at times, but up and around and "visible" (not hiding) sometimes, even laying in the sun when he can. I'm weighing him daily and he's holding steady at 15 lbs.

My first paycheck is a week from Monday, and I'm going to run him down to the vet and see if I can get him fixed up soon. I feel bad because I can't do anything for him at the moment. Heck, I'm gonna have to try and borrow just to make rent this month....

glass.... you could ask your vet for a payment plan. i don't know too many vets that would turn away a sick animal or maybe do a barter trade for services.....but talk to him/her in person about it....harder to turn down someone holding a sick animal. (ewwwww....that sounds manipulating....)

hope all is well....

PS, can you do home cooking for cat, as now hear even the dry food not safe. sooo hope you like your job.

You could try putting some butter on his food. Maybe he would lick plain butter. I am so sorry. I know how much my family and I love our cat. He too is very old. He has been with us through thick and thin and there has been a lot of thin.

Well, it's over.

He got progressivly worse, and I made an appoitment at the local vet to put him down. We were supposed to be there today @5:30.

I cried last night, and said my goodbyes as I stroked him. (He purred) I prayed to God that he wasn't suffering, and for a quick, painless death.

Today at work, I was thinking. *sigh* "God doesn't do cats. I mean the prayer was nice, but Gods got more important things to do then think about my cat...."

I got a call an hour later. My daughter went in my room. He was gone. But, he was on my bed, safe and warm when he went. No scary car ride, no scared animal & medicine smells at the vet. He was home.

We took his body to the vet. My daughter kicked in about $50.00, and he's gonna be cremated, his ashes returned to us. (I usually bury my pets, but we're in an apartment now)

God I loved that cat.......he was the best animal friend I ever had. Thank You God.

Hi GP,
That cat was loved. Sorry for your loss. We feed some alley cats near our house and one of them, Mookie, hasn't been around for some time. Maybe he's up at Rainbow Bridge with your buddy. Hope so. Hang in there.

So sorry, GP.

Glad it happened at home where he was warm and in a loving environment.
My sponsor kept her cat's ashes too - they give her great comfort.

((((hugs))))

GP, my heart goes out to you today because I know how sad you feel.

My Toby is getting old too and was very sick recently because of the poison cat food, but is doing better now. That said, I know the day will come when he too will leave me and I can only hope he goes as peacefully as your dear cat.

I believe that God loves all his creatures, including our furry friends, and when they should suffer no more, He takes them home. I can't imagine a heaven without cats. Call me silly, I don't care, I believe that the love they give us remains part of us forever.

Heartfelt Hugs

Hi GP,

My fantastic Main Coon went the same way, on the day I was going to bring him in. I believe that he passed away at home to spare me the pain, grief, and trauma I would have suffered at the Vets office.

God most certainly does do cats! He puts them into our lives as companions.

I have 5 cats right now and I love them all.

Know that even in your greif, Fats will always be with you.

Ted
