Linda,
Sugar cravings are definitely there in early sobriety. For me it was the daily raid of the fridge for lots of delicious ice cream - but like everything else, this too shall pass. I’m seven months in now and the late evening cravings are pretty much a thing of the past. Now working on cleaning up my diet - low carb and 16:8 fasting...

Welcome Linda
both things are pretty common early on - some people just let the sugar cravings go for a little while and focus on not drinking...
if that's not your style try and eat simple sugars - fruits etc.....and make sure you stay hydrated- it might help with the headaches

Hi Linda! My name is Linda too.
I craved sugar in early recovery as well - which made sense to me, figuring how many carbohydrates were in the cider & beer I used to drink.
I just went with it and satisfied my sweet tooth for the first few weeks, until I felt ready to start eating a healthier diet.

A big help for me, especially early on, was keeping healthy snacks within reach. And dark chocolate. Nuts, dates and bananas do it for me. Hardboiled eggs were a craving as I sprinkled them with salt (helped balance my electrolytes, I think).
I'd have a piece of dark chocolate at bedtime.
