I made it too! Seems almost unreal how different my life is now that I made just that one little and huge change - quitting drinking. I have been concerned a few times along the way especially when I would keep myself going some days by saying first - I have to make it to 90 days and then 6 months - that I was setting myself up to drink once I passed those milestones. But now I have decided that I will have Markers Mark on the rocks with no water when I get to heaven and I am finding that thought oddly comforting. I am not sure I believe in an afterlife but ..... whatever keeps me going when the random urge or bad moment occurs.
Congrats to all 'newcomers' to this thread!! I too can't believe how different and better my life is since giving it up. I feel better, sleep better, eat better, and take care of my responsibilities so much better. My beloved doggies show it too: they're healthier and happier than they've ever been.
Living sober really rocks!!

Hi lyddie!
I think I know what you mean, and I'm committed to never having another drink for the rest of my life as well. I've read way too many cautionary tales here on SR where people have tried to have just one drink or to drink moderately and end up hitting record bottoms in no time. It just 'aint worth the risk!!!!!!!!!

I had a year in October. Nobody has been here at all. When it says 1 yr and under I felt I had graduated past this too? Guess I don't know where to go anymore. I like the bus...maybe go for a ride there.
Wow, 2yrs..thats a long time to be in a thread there, LOL. Course I NEVER thought I would make it to over 6 months..
I still going to the gym 2x a week with a trainer. They are kicking my asssss. But I have held steady in my weight. They claim its muscle, but I dont know. How much muscle can a 42yr old man still produce? I started eating healthy today. No more fast food for me, and thats all I eat. Hate it. Crave it just like I did beer in the beginning. In fact, I have to be careful cuz it can be feel like beer cravings to me.

HFA - Food cravings do feel like wine urges for me too. I have been having intense food cravings due to work stress. For me it's a carbohydrate thing. Yesterday I didn't eat any sweets but did feel the urge to eat several pieces of good wheat bread toasted with lots of real butter. Finally made myself throw the loaf out and put the remainder of the butter in the freezer so I wouldn't have easy access to either.
Hi Lyddie, ..and all
I really thought I was going to lose some weight when I quit drinking. I was easily drinking about 5,000 calories a week and when drunk eating anything available after midnight.
I did lose some weight but not as much as I thought. That's probably because I cannot stop eating snacks. I started buying healthy snacks but a calorie is a calorie, and as I keep eating all the time I can't lose any more weight.
Anyway, things are much better. I sleep well and have energy to workout more
Weekend is almost here, enjoy!

I have actually gained 12ish pounds (5.5KG) since I stopped. Gotta be a lot of food to replace 1200 cals in beer plus food every nite.
I checked today, and eating healthy still sucks.... . Though I hear it gets easier.

Long day today. Slept at the GF house last nite, so I didnt get much sleep. Tired all day. Took the DDs to lunh, then to see my mom in the hospital, shes been in a week. Hopefully goes home tomorrow. Blood problems related to Chemo.ook the girls to get their hair cut. Fixed a sink and two toilets at the Xs house. One is still running, so gotta do that again. Went grocery shooping. Now I have to clean the apartment and cook some lunches for the week. Kid in apartment upstairs still running around and jumping. Loud as he!!
Mundane, but long day. Felling kinda depressed and down. Probably from taking the girls back to the Xs, or from being over their so long.
Still sober though.....
