I'm joining in late. My songs:

Demons by Imagine Dragons
A Little Bit Stronger by Sara Evans

And when I want to just chill out I put on Ben Harper. Love his song Steal My Kisses.

I Shazamed it one day from a commercial. When I finally listened to the entire thing I realized how much it plays to me.
This is on my ipod for when I need not to think, just to get through it

Suncatcher, I so appreciate you posting that. It makes so much sense xx

Stung,

I like Jack Johnson too. I always thought Ben Harper was cuter though.

Oh my, I love music. I was fortunate enough to grow up with parents who always had music playing, and had a large record collection. I was also encouraged to play an instrument (after not enjoying clarinet, I swapped with my sister and played flute.)

I have so many songs I could list here, hard to choose. But my go-to song to get me through things is the Beatles "Let it Be."

I was just gifted this song and am loving it:

Rescue by Yuna

She thinks she's all alone
And all her hopes are gone
And so I wrote this song
So she can move along

Well, things were bad
She was in despair
Well, things were bad.
And you were never there

But things were bad
She came up for air
She said a little prayer
She found herself

Chorus:
Yeah, she's got a light in her face
She don't need no rescue and she's okay
Yeah, she's got life in her veins.
She don't need no rescue and she's okay.
No SOS needed; no rescuing, she's fine out there
No SOS needed; no rescuing, she's fine out there
Yeah, she's got life in her veins
She don't need no rescue and she's okay

She looks into the sky
And all her tears are dry
She kiss her fears goodbye
She's gonna be alright.

But things were bad
It was beyond repair.
She was scared
She couldn't handle it.
Things were bad but now she's glad
Can't you tell - she's walking on air?

Chorus:
Yeah, she's got a light in her face
She don't need no rescue and she's okay.
Yeah, she's got life in her veins.
She don't need no rescue and she's okay.
No SOS needed; no rescuing, she's fine out there
No SOS needed; no rescuing, she's fine out there
Yeah, she's got life in her veins.
She don't need no rescue and she's okay

That girl is you, yeah
And that girl is me
That girl is stronger than the raging sea
That girl is you, yeah
And that girl is me
That girl is stronger than the raging sea
Chorus:
Yeah, she's got a light in her face
She don't need no rescue and she's okay.
Yeah, she's got life in her veins.
She don't need no rescue and she's okay.
No SOS needed; no rescuing, she's fine out there
No SOS needed; no rescuing, she's fine out there
Yeah, she's got life in her veins
She don't need no rescue and she's okay

I don't listen to the radio much, but was yesterday on the drive home and Say Something came on; it's the first time I'd heard it.

"Say Something"

Say something, I'm giving up on you
I'll be the one, if you want me to
Anywhere I would've followed you
Say something, I'm giving up on you

And I am feeling so small
It was over my head
I know nothing at all

And I will stumble and fall
I'm still learning to love
Just starting to crawl

Say something, I'm giving up on you
I'm sorry that I couldn't get to you
Anywhere I would've followed you
Say something, I'm giving up on you

And I will swallow my pride
You're the one that I love
And I'm saying goodbye

Say something, I'm giving up on you
And I'm sorry that I couldn't get to you
And anywhere I would've followed you (Oh-oh-oh-oh)
Say something, I'm giving up on you

Say something, I'm giving up on you
Say something...

India Arie's Heart of the Matter came on Pandora the other day and its a great recovery song too. I guess she just covered it though, apparently its a Don Headley song but I don't know who he is.

Sigh. Happy birthday, young Stung! Don Henley is (was?) the lead singer for the Eagles.

Now who is India Arie?

As a lifelong musician, I knew there was something deeply, desperately, terribly wrong in my relationship with my alcoholic xgf when I couldn't stand to hear music anymore.

Well here's one I think of today after everything that's happened.

Fu Manchu - Freedom Of Choice (devo cover)
Fu Manchu - Freedom of Choice - YouTube

A victim of collision on the open sea
Nobody ever said that life was free
Sink, swim, go down with the ship
But use your freedom of choice

I'll say it again in the land of the free
Use your freedom of choice
Your freedom of Choice.

In ancient Rome there was a poem about a dog who had two bones
He picked at one, he licked the other
He went in circles till he dropped dead

Freedom of choice is what you got
Freedom of choice is what you want

Then if you got it, you don't want it
Seems to be the rule of thumb
Don't be tricked by what you see
You got two ways to go...

I'll say it again in the land of the free
Use your freedom of choice
Your freedom of Choice.

Yes, he is also the drummer. He sings the lead vocals on Hotel California, and other Eagles songs (though not all of them!)

Heart of the Matter was from one of his solo albums.

Now who is India Arie?
LOL... I just had a conversation about who River Phoenix was with a co-worker - DS wants his hair cut like Young Indie (River's character in the India Jones movie). She had no idea who he was, and when I told her he died in the early 90's, she informed me she was in grade school then. That conversation left ME feeling old.

India Arie has an AMAZING voice. I love this song in her recent album:

Just Do You

I heard a voice that told me I'm essential
How all my fears are limiting my potential
Said it's time to step into the light and
Use every bit of the power I have inside

So what'chu waiting on
Who You waiting for
If You don't take a chance You'll never know what's in store

Just Do You (Somebody's got to be a star)
Just Do You (Somebody's got to raise the bar)
Just Do You (Somebody's got to change the game)
Just Do You (Today)

Every mountain needs someone to climb it
Every ocean needs someone to dive in
Every dream needs someone to wish it
Every adventure needs someone to live it

So what'chu waiting on
Who You waiting for
If You don't take a chance You'll never know what's in store

Just Do You (Somebody's got to be a star)
Just Do You (Somebody's got to raise the bar)
Just Do You (Somebody's got to change the game)
Just Do You (Today)

If You create the game then You create the rules
And if You just be You
There's no way You can lose

There's a story waiting for you to write it
There's a treasure waiting for you to find it
There's a picture waiting for you to paint it
There's a dollar waiting for you to make it

So what'chu waiting on
Who You waiting for
If You don't take a chance You'll never know what's in store

Just Do You (Somebody's got to be a star)
Just Do You (Somebody's got to raise the bar)
Just Do You (Somebody's got to change the game)
Just Do You (Today)

If You create the game then You create the rules
And if You just be You
There's no way You can lose

Yikes. Listening to a Genius playlist and this song just came on. I bought it before RAH and I were even engaged but it's clearly about an alcoholic/codependent relationship.

"Foundations" by Kate Nash

Thursday night,
everything's fine,
Except you've got that look in your eyes,
when I'm telling a story
And you find it boring you're thinking of something to say.
You'll go along with and then drop it
And you humiliate me, in front of our friends.

Then I'll use that voice what you find annoyin'
And say something like
"intelligent input darlin' why don't you just have another beer then?"

Then you call me a bitch and everyone we're with will be embarrassed,
and I won't give a ****.

[Chorus:]
My fingertips are holding onto the
cracks in our foundations,
and I know that I should let go,
but I can't.
And everytime we fight I know it's not right,
everytime that you're upset and I smile
I know I should forget, but I can't.

You said I must eat so many lemons,
'cause I am so bitter.
I said "I'd rather be with your friends mate,
'cause they are much fitter"

Yes it was childish
and you got aggressive
and I must admit that I was a bit scared,
but it gives me thrills to wind you up.

[Chorus]

Your face is pasty,
'cause you've gone and got so wasted,
what a surprise,
don't want to look at your face,
'cause it's making me sick.

You've gone and got sick on my trainers,
I only got these yesterday.
Oh my gosh, I cannot be bothered with this.

Well I'll leave you there till the mornin',
and I purposely won't turn the heating on
and dear God, I hope I'm not stuck with this one.

[Chorus]

And every time we fight I know it's not right,
every time that you're upset and I smile.
I know I should forget, but I can't.

"Just one more day,
I'll have it all figured out-
The things that perplex me,
Are things that always turn up, oh they turn up.

If I can see a reason for the doubt,
I just might believe
There's nothing left to know.

Just sweepin' up the dustballs,
Just cleaning up the show..."

Arrow Lucinda Williams - Changed The Locks

Lucinda Williams Live HQ, Changed the Locks, 2001 Vh1,Best Audio Version - YouTube

I changed the lock on my front door so you can't see me anymore
And you can't come inside my house, and you can't lie down on my couch
I changed the lock on my front door

I changed the number on my phone so you can't call me up at home
And you can't say those things to me that make me fall down on my knees
I changed the number on my phone

I changed the kind of car I drive so you can't see me when I go by
And you can't chase me up the street, and you can't knock me off of my feet
I changed the kind of car I drive

I changed the kind of clothes I wear so you can't see me anywhere
And you can't spot me in a crowd, and you can't call my name out loud
I changed the kind of clothes I wear

I changed the tracks underneath the train so you can't find me again
And you can't trace my path, and you can't hear my laugh
I changed the tracks underneath the train

I changed the name of this town so you can't follow me down
And you can't touch me like before, and you can't make me want you more
I changed the name of this town

I changed the lock on my front door, I changed the number on my phone
I changed the kind of car I drive, I changed the kind of clothes I wear

I changed the tracks underneath the train, I changed the name of this town
I changed the name of this town
I changed the name of this to
wn
