Experiential learning.
This morning the sobriety calendar informs me that I am now 710 days sober and as I referred to in my previous thread of the same name, echoing the lyrics of Roger Waters in the song,'Comfortaby Numb' which as my friend, Dee 74 graciouslyinformed me, being a ,'Pink Floyd' fan at least initially referred to the experience suffered as the result of a childhood illness.
The late and eminent educational psychologist, Carl Rogers who developed the,'humanist' approach to psychology is quoted as once saying,'I cannot teach anybody, anything all I can do is create the environment in which they will learn' .
Reflecting on my sobriety and my time on SRC I see Carl Roger's qoutation in action, for here by virtue of the sites and existence and all those who participate in it whether they view, post threads, offer constructive critism, administrate or moderate as a community they create the environment in which we all participate in experiential learning.
A further definition of learning, 'Is the induction of knowledge within the parameters of human behaviour' which perhaps reinforces this.
So to all those who, like I , have suffered under the lash of alcohol and now in recovery help others including me I offer my gratitude to you, not withstanding those others who have helped me along the way for no one comes into your life at random, ever. Mike W.
