Is it honestly possible?

Is it possible to live a successful life with a DUI under my belt? I made a mistake. I had no idea that it would cost me my life.

Hi BrokenW. I'm not a driver so I've never had one but I'm sure you'll hear from people who have and who have gone on to good things.

whats been happening since you were last here in November?

An ongoing lesson in....

For myself I liken my life thus far as similar to the title of Soko Morinaga's book,'Novice to Master - An Ongoing Lesson in the Extent of My Own Stupidity', seeing nothing wrong in that, especially the second part so long as I learn from it!

The problems arise if like Einstein's definition of insanity you keep repeating the same thing over and over again each time expecting a different result!

Maybe if you consult an attorney you
may know, family associated, friend,
you could talk to them in seeing what
you can do to get it erased off your
record. Maybe some kind of community
service or something along that line.

It could be something worth looking
into.

Good idea!

Good idea, certainly in the UK you can get motoring convictions, which includes DUI ( which includes mine) removed from your driving licence after certain periods of time have elapsed, but either way do not let it interfere with your recovery...

It wasn't easy but, I attended the 3 month, 1 year and the 18 month DUI Drunk Driving Program. Even today at 9 years sober I'm paying close to 3 thousand dollars a year for vehicle insurance.

Your life is not over
but
if you get another one or two DUI's
the pain and suffering will be very intense.

If alcoholic?
Sobriety might work the best?

I know that you totaled your car, and were charged, but that is nothing compared to what could have happened if you had destroyed another car, destroyed private property, injured yourself, or injured someone else.

I spoke with someone once who lost his arm in a DUI wreck that also killed a young teenage girl. Imagine waking up to that nightmare. I know it sounds patronizing, but count your blessings, BrokenW, and make sure that this never happens again.

You are still young, and you have time to recover from this, provided that you don't get any more DUI's, as Mountainmanbob mentioned. You didn't stick around here before, but consider doing so this time.

What did your attorney advise you to do?

Did you go to court already?

Yes!

You are still here. It looks like the choices you've always had have been made clearer.
