If he truly wants recovery he can not make his recovery dependant upon a job, a person, a home, a car, or anything else.
This is so true! I remember one time I quit and poured myself into competing, I lived it and breathed it. I had much success purely due to physical conditioning. After the euphoria wore off (which was quickly) I was the same sober miserable person. That was my dry. Now through AA I'm seeking my recovery.

Being the deep codependent that I am, I find myself waivering on what I know to be true. I end up questioning myself and allow myself to get sucked into the manipulation that often accompanies the Dry AH. So I truly appreciate everyones' posts and hope to continue reading about different recovery experiences.

A rich and fulfilling recovery is one where we thrive and blossom.
We are not hanging on by our finger nails to sobriety.
We reach out to new people, new ideas and new experiences.
We challenge ourselves to move forward in our lives.
We share what we have learned with those who are where we used to be.
We open our minds to what others have to say.
We allow others their own truth.
We know that we are responsible for ourselves and our actions.

I would say that being "dry" is the opposite of above.

This post has been really helpful to me. I've been sober for two weeks now, but I'm not in a program. I don't feel like I'm hanging by a thread, but I also don't feel like I'm making much progress in my life either.

I'm going with the flow, but not really enjoying the scenery.

Thanks. I'm thinking now about the next steps I should take.
