I stopped by the homeless ministry where my friend works early in the morning last Friday which is her actual sober anniversary. She had not arrived to work yet but I gave my letter and gift to one of her co-workers who accepted it with a big smile. She assured me that she would get them to my friend.
The office staff celebrated on Friday with her, another group of friends celebrated Saturday and her home group occupied her Sunday. Her boyfriend posted things on Facebook and she got hundreds of likes and positive comments -- her 20 year accomplishment certainly did not go un-noticed!
I was at our Church today and passed by the homeless ministry where my friend works. She saw me out of her office window and ran out to thank me - as predicted by someone here, I got a big hug and she cried a bit on my shoulder - you all were right, the letter meant way more to her than the coin.
Keep coming back,
Jim
