I'm a new man.

I said that this morning after breakfast. The pleasure of a simple meal, unencumbered of hangover or drunkenness, is truly invigorating. A question popped into my head immediately.

Who is he?

You see, I've been drinking or drugging since I was 16. After leaving home at 17 for college, I've rarely spent more than a few days not imbibing in something. 27 years of substance abuse. That is over now.

I'm also unemployed. The company I worked for reorganized me out the door first week of February. I should probably thank them as the free time led me to sobriety.

Have you ever made your way through the forest to the banks of a new trout stream? Reaching the water, standing on the bank with the rush of water speaking to you, you look up and downstream at something beautiful and brand new just waiting to be explored.

That's where I am today. In a peculiar duality. I am standing on the bank and I am the stream. Explorer and wilderness.

Be careful, my friend, or you shall transcend duality...and where will that leave you? *s*
