Terminally Unique

Has anyone heard from Terminally Unique lately?

He used to average over 6 posts a day but has not been active since 5-10-12.
He may have seemed like a Devils Advocate to AA but I learned a lot from him.

He's doing great, from what I hear. Enjoying his SR retirement, so to speak.

And that is well deserved. He has done a great service for untold numbers of people, myself included. I have no doubt his contributions here will continue to pay forward for years to come.

I have heard from him. He is fine, but he's moved on.

But as ReadyAndAble says, his contributions can never be erased. He did a lot of good here...and maybe, just maybe, in the future folks will remember that being a "devil's advocate" is not necessarily a bad thing.

I know for a fact that his "devil's advocacy" was the impetus for many to stop their addiction(s). Addiction must be challenged, not coddled. I always respected and appreciated his approach. I haven't heard from him as of late, but think of him often.

Thumbs up

I second those emotions. Good to know that people virtually do care!

Hey I'm a big AA guy but I am not one of those "AA is the only way" people. I support, first and foremost, sobriety, regardless of how you get there. I thought Terminally Unique was a great presence around SR.

Why is he taking a break from SR, does anyone know?

I don't know if it's a break. I certainly can't speak for TU, but I think it's important to remember that AVRT isn't a program that one follows on an ongoing basis; it's strategy for ending addiction, once and for all, and then moving on with your life. I stick around SR because I still find my addiction fascinating, and want to understand it better. I also feel indebted, and I like to settle my debts. But I expect that at some point I will shove off from this little island, and sail into the sunset.

I do not know what happened, I honestly do not. But I have the sense that TU's departure may not have been entirely his idea. It may be that he was a bit, shall we say, ahead of his time here on SR. There was a time when simply saying that there are different paths to recovery was viewed as "bashing" a certain program, and I am sure TU made more than a few people mad. But he made a difference, too. SR is a lot more open minded than it used to be.

OK we're getting into speculation here and heading towards scuttlebutt.

People leave SR for all kinds of reasons.

We're done here.

I'd be surprised if at least some of you aren't in contact - why not ask the guy?
