Step 7: We humbly asked Him to remove our shortcomings.
About finding the positive characteristics within oneself.
Practicing spiritual principles in place of character defects.
Recognizing that we're doing our best.
Accepting who we are,
and working with those strengths to do better in our weaknesses.
I'm jumping ahead here, only on step 1, and NA step-work groupless again.
YET, I can see how step 7 works within this thread of avoidance.
Avoidance is a shortcoming. (note how this thread began, avoiding going home...seeking drugs to further the avoidance!!) It needs to be replaced with observance, and honesty, about oneself, and to and with others. OH DO I CLEARLY SEE how avoidance is a character defect, and further, the spiritual practice of honesty MUST replace it. Then, with that, the avoidance will naturally fall away. Just as *should* the desire to use drugs as my primary avoidance technique. Yes?
