I was asked to go on a pub tour
I am very new to recovery. I am currently 27 days sober and doing well. I must tell you that it is not common knowledge among my friends and family that I have stopped drinking. It was more of a personal acknowlegement that I have a problem with drinking, and that I want to stop. In the past almost month I have had some desire to drink but nothing major were I felt that I must have alchohol. I also must tell you that I havent really put my self in many situations where I might be tempted. In the past month I have been to friends and family gatherings where people where drinking, and sucessfully resisted the urge to grab a beer. Now, my friends asked me to go to a pub tour with them in a few weeks and I would say that this could be my biggest test to date, if I decide to go. What do you think? Should I go? I'd appreciate your feedback.
Well, Dominic, of course it's a personal decision. For me, I could not have done it early in sobriety. And, I avoided situations that put me in the situation where I actively had to fight an urge to drink. It was hard enough to stop drinking, I just didn't want added problems.
IMHO--The main activity of a pub tour is to drink. If it was me, I would NOT go. It sounds like tempting fate just a little bit too much. I have found other ways to celebrate with and enjoy my friends. Just my two cents worth!
