3 weeks!
3 weeks!
Hey Folks!
I'm celebrating 3 weeks since my last drink. I feel better about myself. Last night I had a dream where I saw the sober me, and I was happy. I can feel God in my life, and I'm opening my heart to God (as I understand "God").
I've joined AA, found a temp. sponsor, and started reading the big book. I've been re-organizing my garage work-shop, and I have so much more energy for my wood working hobby. Once I get it back together, I'll build the cherry bedroom set I've promised my wife since we were married.
I'm thinking about doing some volunteer service as a part of my recovery, but I don't think that will happen right away. I'm at 3 weeks, but it's not all a rose garden.... "Easy does it, chip". I'm highly motivated to look into some volunteer opportunities very soon....
Anyways, I'd like to take this opportunity to thank all you fine, fine people here on SR. I really couldn't have done this without you folks, and I'm deeply grateful for each of you.

Most Excellent, Chip!! If I had a 3-week chip to give you, it would be all yours.
Finding a way to volunteer--whether it's AA sanctioned or not--is a great way to bolster your sobriety. I like to refer to it as ''donating the charity of your heart''. Even if your service committment is as meek as making the coffee for your homegroup, it is quite rewarding. Service gives us a feeling of giving back to the community.
You know, it's true about alcoholics being resistant to change...I used to fix gourmet coffee for my happy-hour homegroup. Most of the members enjoyed it and they liked something different on occasion, and some just outright complained. LOL. I ended up making 3 or 4 different brews every meeting so I could placate them 90% or better.
Yah yah I know, that totally screams CODEPENDENCY. You just can't make everybody happy no matter how much effort we put forth!
So Anyway...
Congrats On the 3 weeks!!!

((((((((((Chip))))))))))) Wow! And to think just 3 weeks ago you were trying to moderate, obsessing over drinking, and were downright miserable. That's progress!!!
All those cliche's are good to remember:
Easy does it.
One day at a time.
Keep it simple.
Let go and let God.
Progress, not perfection.
You are worth your recovery.
The list goes on and on.......
Keep on keepin' on, friend. You are doing great.
Hugs--

It's beautiful saterday morning...well, afternoon now. I'm feeling good, and gosh, I'm thankful for the support I get here on SR. I wish all of you a happy, sober weekend. I will post pics of the bedroom furniture, but it will probably take me a couple months to get it done.......
God Bless you all,
Chip

Thats GRRRRRRRRRRREAT!! Proud of you, chip. Just remember not to take on too much at first. Not nesessarily you....but some newly recovering alcoholics,......some find that all it takes is one failure to send them back out. So we are told to not take on too much right away to lessen that possibility. Just a tip to keep in mind!! Otherwise,...you are doing awesome!! Keep it up.
Great job Chip. Keep going. Glad to see you living sober. It gets better each day. We are in a tough business. We call it the lyons den. I almost got eaten alive there this morning from a customer from the past wanting to party with me. Wanted to drink right there on the spot with me. I told him I was just leaving. Close call. Thank God for AA, I would be drunk right now.
Keep up the outstanding work Chip.

You can consider your posting here a bit of service, reading about your struggle and growth has helped me for sure!
Thanks folks! I met with my sponsor today, and had a really good meeting tonight. As Liveandletlive says, some of us exist in the "lions den". I can relate to the story of the customer who wants to party on the spot..... How about one who insists on putting drinks on his tab for you and your staff???? Honestly, I need God's help to get through each night.
AA is the right choice for me, and it's my medicine now. God willing, I'll be sober tommorow as well.
Thank you all for your words of encouragement. You've helped me more than you will ever know.....
hugs,
chip
