What's the toughest drug to kick in your opinion?

This board has a lot of different people with different addictions. Alcohol,
Meth, Cocaine, ect...

I'm a drunk so I understand booze pretty good. But what I have no idea is
what is it like to quit narcotics? I've done damn near every drug under the
sun and never got addicted to any of them. Maybe it's just my genetic constitution that booze is my weakness. Maybe I didn't do enough crank
and coke while in college. Is there a difference in which drug is tougher to
kick the habit?

For example with alcohol, booze is staring you in the face every where you
look and go. Restaurants, grocery stores, ect... It's a constant reminder that
you can't drink. On the other hand it's not like you can stroll into a 7-11 and buy a gram of coke or sit down at restaurant and half the people are smoking
crack? With booze that is the case.

Just curious on different opinions. Thanks

I think it depends on the person. Some have a hrd time with alcohol and no problem with drugs and vice versa.Personally,I dont think one is harder than another.I havent had a drink in over 10 years and I am only clean 4 months.

I personally think it's meth...but then again, that's mine. I guess to think logically, heroin seems to have a pretty rough detox...but the detox from meth wasn't too fun either. I've done just about every drug too, but meth was the one that got me. I feel no need to get drunk, or smoke pot or snort coke...but not a day goes by where I don't think about hitting a glass pipe... I guess it's all just a matter of opinion, and my opinion is meth.

ciggarettes.

Nicotine is said to be the toughest drug to kick.

Try telling that to an addict detoxing and I am sure you will get a different opinion. Try telling that to an dependant alcoholic that is in the DTs and I am sure you will get a different opinion

What ever the monstor is that we each face is the toughest for that person.

If they did, I am sure it would be much easier.

How many try and never stop? It is an socially accepted drug for the most part, so many continue it daily that want to stop.

For me, it is alcohol and cocaine. But, if I could have gotten access to meth, I would have been addicted to it. The times that I did do meth, it was instant love. I knew that I would have easily been an addict. With cocaine, I didn't fall in love so easily. I partied with it without addiction for a long time. But, one day it turned on me and bit me right in the face.
And that was hello addiction.

I spent so much time trying to find meth and all I could ever get was coke. Now, I just want to get off all drugs and everything to live and clean and sober life.

Jessi From your posts I have read, you are pretty smart.
Being 20 has nothing to do with how smart a person is. I know people half my age that have more wisdom then I may ever gain.
At 20 you are seeing things that take some people 20 more years to figure out. You are on a right path to a good start.

Jessi,

You have a lot of wisdom. And it is great that you want to have a better life at 20. So much good stuff ahead of you......all better than you can imagine now. But, stay clean, and you will see the wonders of sobriety awakening in your life.

I'm so glad that you found SR!

Thanks...I was just bein a smart***, by the way...if that doesn't say I'm 20, then I dunno what does. Thanks for thinking I'm pretty smart. Actually quitting meth was the smartest, and hardest by the way, thing that I have ever done. And I too have done crazy stuff while sober!

Simple - the one you're most addicted to.

As I've said in other posts though, it isn't the drug that's the problem...

I'm with Mr. Dent up there. The hardest drug to kick is the one (or more) that has the strongest hold on you. None of it is easy.

Hang in there, everyone!

Addiction is fascinating...and awful...I just have never seen the appeal in drugs, coke, pills, etc. Take it or leave it approach - would be nice if my alcohol attitude was the same. I just basically have no control once I start...I'll drink and drink til I pass out basically. I did that from day 1 in college.

I often wonder...the fact that here, and in the UK it's normal for the teens and twenties to go out and drink til they fall down (hooliganism a huge problem esp in the UK, fourteen fifteen year olds, it's horrendous) do you think they are all alcoholics/in the making or just a 'phase'

I reckon AA/rehab referrals are just on the up.

for me, nicotine is the one...maybe because of its availability...maybe because of the short time span between fixes (apparently body starts to crave again within 30 minutes)...interestingly, i once read that nearly 100% of heroin addicts are smokers too (think it was Allan Carr who said that?) also i believe people who smoke weed daily, but not cigarettes, are actually addicted to the tobacco...anyway, i've tried everything except hypnotherapy to quit the fags...that's next on my list...all my other vices are thankfully under control...

nicotine - I've quit my DOC, opiates from codeine to percs to demerol, valiums, you name it. If its legal I've tried it.

And nicotine was still the hardest...after 3 years went back without a blink of an eye. Once I stay clean for a few months from my DOC I'll let you know if it is worse than nicotine But I doubt it.
