Ludwig Van!!

Beethoven's 9th is unequivically one of the most beautiful, evocative masterpieces, second only to his 3rd and 5th symphonies.

The Providential Ninth Symphonie

Ludwig Van Beethoven (1770-1827)

Symphony N° 9 in D Minor, Opus 125

ODE TO JOY
(Written by Friedrich Schiller)

Oh friends, not these tones!
Let us raise our voices in more
pleasing and more joyful sounds!

Joy, beautiful spark of the gods,
Daughter of Elysium,
We enter fire imbibed,
Heavenly, thy sanctuary.

Thy magic reunites those
Whom stern custom has parted;
All men will become brothers
Under thy gentle wing.

May he who has had the fortune
To gain a true friend
And he who has won a noble wife
Join in our jubilation!

Yes, even if he calls but one soul
His own in all the world.
But he who has failed in this
Must steal away alone and in tears.

All the world's creatures
Draw joy from nature's breast;
Both the good and the evil
Follow her rose-strewn path.

She gave us kisses and wine
And a friend loyal unto death;
She gave lust for life to the lowliest,
And the Cherub stands before God.

Joyously, as his suns speed
Through Heaven's glorious order,
Hasten, Brothers, on your way,
Exulting as a knight in victory.

Joy, beautiful spark of the gods,
Daughter of Elysium,
We enter fire imbibed,
Heavenly, thy sanctuary.

Be embraced, Millions!
This kiss for all the world!
Brothers!, above the starry canopy
A loving father must dwell.

Can you sense the Creator, world?
Seek him above the starry canopy.
Above the stars He must dwell.

Be embraced, Millions!
This kiss for all the world!
Brothers!, above the starry canopy
A loving father must dwell.

Can you sense the Creator, world?
Seek him above the starry canopy.
Above the stars He must dwell.

Joy, beautiful spark of the gods,
Daughter of Elysium,
We enter fire imbibed,
Heavenly, thy sanctuary.

Be embraced, Millions!
This kiss for all the world!
Brothers!, above the starry canopy
A loving father must dwell.

Can you sense the Creator, world?
Seek him above the starry canopy.
Above the stars He must dwell.

Be embraced, Millions!
This kiss for all the world!
Brothers!, above the starry canopy
A loving father must dwell.

Can you sense the Creator, world?
Seek him above the starry canopy.
Above the stars He must dwell.

Joy, daughter of Elysium
Thy magic reunites those
Whom stern custom has parted;
All men will become brothers
Under thy gentle wing.

Be embraced, Millions!
This kiss for all the world!
Brothers!, above the starry canopy
A loving father must dwell.

Joy, beautiful spark of Gods!,
Daughter of Elysium,
Joy, beatiful spark of Gods!.

Thank You Thank You! The 9th is probably my #1 favorite. My Dad and I went to a live performance of it at the Crystal Cathedral many years ago. If I remember correctly, it was conducted by Maestro Leonard Bernstein.

I so concur.

I have Ludwig's greatest compositions on a CD with the ocean sound in the background. What great music in recovery

Bolero

I especially love it after seeing the movie Ten the love sceen with, Dudley Moore and Bo Derek.....oh my gosh that was hilarious...her braided hair all those beads, always falling in Dudley's face.
Gotta love Dudley, loved him in the movie Arthur.....Arthur, he does as he pleases. All his life he's mastered choices. Deep in his heart, he's just, he's just a boy. Living his life one day at a time..."
I love the theme song......Best That You Could Do...By Christopher Cross

Sailing...Christopher Cross......

http://members.vpchat.com/chantilly.lace/Sailing.html

Well, it's not far down to paradise, at least it's not for me
And if the wind is right you can sail away and find tranquility
Oh, the canvas can do miracles, just you wait and see.
Believe me.
It's not far to never-never land, no reason to pretend
And if the wind is right you can find the joy of innocence again
Oh, the canvas can do miracles, just you wait and see.
Believe me.

Sailing takes me away to where I've always heard it could be
Just a dream and the wind to carry me
And soon I will be free

Fantasy, it gets the best of me
When I'm sailing
All caught up in the reverie, every word is a symphony
Won't you believe me?

Well it's not far back to sanity, at least it's not for me
And if the wind is right you can sail away and find serenity
Oh, the canvas can do miracles, just you wait and see.
Believe me.

"God put a smile upon your face" Lyric by "Coldplay"

(center text)

Where do we go nobody knows?
I've gotta say I'm on my way down
God give me style and give me grace
God put a smile upon my face
Where do we go to draw the line?
I've gotta say I wasted all your time, (oh honey honey)
Where do I go to fall from grace?
God put a smile upon your face, yeah

Now, when you work it out I'm worse than you
Yeah, when you work it out I wanted to
Now, when you work out where to draw the line
Your guess is as good as mine

Where do we go nobody knows?
Don't even say you're on your way down, (when)
God gave you style and gave you grace
And put a smile upon your face, ah yeah

Now, when you work it out I'm worse than you
Yeah, when you work it out I wanted to
Now, when you work out where to draw the line
Your guess is as good as mine
Its as good as mine [x7]

Where do we go nobody knows?
Don't even say you're on your way down, (when)
God gave you style and gave you grace
And put a smile upon your face

One Of My All Time Favorites

Thank you for being a friend
Traveled down the road and back again
Your heart is true your a pal and a confidant.

And if you through a party
Invited everyone you ever knew
You would see the biggest gift would be from me
And the card attached would say thank you for being a friend.

Oh I love those Golden Girls

A bit of tension going on with SR the past few days.
Going out on a limb here, just a hunch. I think with what's going on in our world right now, the horror we've watched in disbelief, the sadness is affecting everyone in some way, has to be. I know if I was in a bad situation I would want everyone to get along no matter what.

Sing along with me....Thank You For Being A Friend

Good thread Chris...we need to sing some happy fun songs today.

All my love....Denise

(((Christie))) yep we need to pull together, hang on tighter to each other.

Thanks (((Chris))) I was listening to that while dusting in here....now that made it a lot more fun, dusting=fun....who knew, lol.

Hi (((igfan))) welcome to SoberRecovery.

I love this one, wish I could find the wav.

Love is but a song we sing
Fears the way we die
You can make the mountains ring
Or make the angels cry
Though the bird is on the wing
You may not know why

Come on people now smile on your brother
Everybody get together
Try to love one another right now

Some may come and some may go
You will surely pass
When the one who left us here
Returns for us at last
We are but the moment's sunlight
Fading in the grass

Come on people now smile on your brother
Everybody get together
Try to love one another right now

If you hear the song we sing
You will understand
You hold the key to love and fear
All in your trembling hand
Just one key unlocks them both
It's just at your command

Come on people now smile on your brother
Everybody get together
Try to love one another right now

Here's a classic! From The Grass Roots, 1967.

Let's Live For Today

When I think of all the worries people seem to find
And how they're in a hurry to complicate their mind
By chasing after money and dreams that can't come true
I'm glad that we are different, we've better things to do
May others plan their future, I'm busy lovin' you (1-2-3-4)
Sha-la-la-la-la-la, live for today
Sha-la-la-la-la-la, live for today
And don't worry 'bout tomorrow, hey, hey, hey
Sha-la-la-la-la-la, live for today
Live for today

We were never meant to worry the way that people do
And I don't need to hurry as long as I'm with you
We'll take it nice and easy and use my simple plan
You'll be my lovin' woman, I'll be your lovin' man
We'll take the most from living, have pleasure while we can (2-3-4)
Sha-la-la-la-la-la, live for today
Sha-la-la-la-la-la, live for today
And don't worry 'bout tomorrow, hey, hey, hey
Sha-la-la-la-la-la, live for today
Live for today

Baby, I need to feel you inside of me
I got to feel you deep inside of me

[very suggestive wording, and I don't think it means what us one-track minders think it means]

Baby please come close to me
I got to have you now, please, please, please
Gimme some-a lovin', gimme some-a lovin'
Gimme some-a lovin', gimme some-a lovin'
Baby gimme some-a lovin'
Gimme some-a lovin, I need all your lovin'
Gimme some-a lovin, I need all your lovin'
Give me some love, now
I need all your lovin'
Sha la la la la la
Sha-la-la-la-la-la, live for today
Sha-la-la-la-la-la, live for today
And don't worry 'bout tomorrow, hey, hey, hey
Sha-la-la-la-la-la, live for today.

I love this thread.....soooooo many good songs out there.

Green acres is the place to be
Farm living is the life for me
Land spreading out
so far and wide
Keep Manhatten
just give me that countryside

New York
is where I'd rather stay
I get allergic smelling hay
I just adore a penthouse view
Darling, I love you,
but give me Park Avenue.

The chores
The stores
Fresh air
Times Square

You are my wife
Good bye city life
Green Acres we are there

Ahhhh Hooterville

Thanks nogard......I found the wav...but darn it all it's teasing me, it's only half the wav waaaa, quick call the wambulance...I got all excited was singing my heart out with it, and it stops before they start to sing Come On People Now
http://deuce.100megs3.com/wavssv.htm

Music soothes the savage beast... so they say....whoever they are.

Loved the Green Acres lyrics!!!
Thanks wingsfree for the good chuckle this AM...
Here is another happy one---

If I Had a Million Dollars

Bare Naked Ladies

If I Had $1000000 (If I Had $1000000)
I'd buy you a house (I would buy you a house)
If I Had $1000000 (If I Had $1000000)
I'd buy you furniture for your house
(Maybe a nice chesterfield or an ottoman)
If I Had $1000000 (If I Had $1000000)
I'd buy you a K-Car (a nice Reliant automobile)
If I Had $1000000 I'd buy your love.

If I Had $1000000
I'd build a tree fort in our yard.
If I Had $1000000
You could help, it wouldn't be that hard.
If I Had $1000000
Maybe we could put a refrigerator in there.
(Wouldn't that be fabulous)

If I Had $1000000 (If I Had $1000000)
I'd buy you a fur coat (but not a real fur coat that's cruel)
If I Had $1000000 (If I Had $1000000)
I'd buy you an exotic pet (Like a llama or an emu)
If I Had $1000000 (If I Had $1000000)
I'd buy you John Merrick's remains (All them crazy elephant bones)
If I Had $1000000 I'd buy your love

If I Had $1000000
We wouldn't have to walk to the store
If I Had $1000000
We'd take a limousine 'cause it costs more
If I Had $1000000
We wouldn't have to eat Kraft Dinner.
(But we would eat Kraft Dinner. Of course we would, we'd just eat more.
And buy really expensive ketchup with it.
That's right, all the fanciest Dijon Ketchup. Mmmmmm.)

If I Had $1000000 (If I Had $1000000)
I'd buy you a green dress (but not a real green dress, that's cruel)
If I Had $1000000 (If I Had $1000000)
I'd buy you some art (a Picasso or a Garfunkel)
If I Had $1000000 (If I Had $1000000)
I'd buy you a monkey (haven't you always wanted a monkey?)
If I Had $1000000 I'd buy your love

If I Had $1000000, If I Had $1000000
If I Had $1000000, If I Had $1000000
I'd be rich

I like Hootersville. What a name

Bennie And The Jets

Music by Elton John
Lyrics by Bernie Taupin
Available on the album Goodbye Yellow Brick Road

Hey kids, shake it loose together
The spotlight's hitting something
That's been known to change the weather
We'll kill the fatted calf tonight
So stick around
You're gonna hear electric music
Solid walls of sound

Say, Candy and Ronnie, have you seen them yet
But they're so spaced out, Bennie and the Jets
Oh but they're weird and they're wonderful
Oh Bennie she's really keen
She's got electric boots a mohair suit
You know I read it in a magazine
Bennie and the Jets

Hey kids, plug into the faithless
Maybe they're blinded
But Bennie makes them ageless
We shall survive, let us take ourselves along
Where we fight our parents out in the streets
To find who's right and who's wrong
