Does it matter...
Doesnt matter to me. I know my addiction inside out...when i am clean it is living life on life's terms that i struggle with. What is important to me is that a counsellor can hear me, hold my anger without feeling threatened by it, can refrain from trying to fix me and point out perspectives that i might have missed. Generally those missed perspectives are emotional ones.
Thanks, Evanna! Good to see you, too! My current therapist/counselor is not an addict either. I guess I meant specifically addictions treatment counselors, though. Now that I've been clean for a LITTLE while I don't feel like I "need" a specific addictions counselor, but when I was in treatment, I was drawn to those that were in recovery themselves.

Yeah, i understand where you are coming from there Eddie. I know when i did my first primary treatment (i done a few ) it seemed important to me at the time that the counsellors were addicts. The more years i used the less it seemed to matter though. (So i am not sure if that means i should edit my vote to read...yeah, but no, but yeah but )
Good to see you an' all lass.
