Weekenders, Sober Journey 08-11 March 2024
I saw (from a distance) a small cube of osmium today. It was grey and looks like slightly shiny lead but over twice as heavy and 35 times as expensive as gold. It is going to be used for some underground electrical contacts that need to be resistant.
My view about the lottery / lotto is that I have about as much chance as anyone else and someone has to win it... to quote the National Lottery slogan in the UK "you've got to be in it to win it". That said, in the 30 years I've done the lottery, the most I've won on one ticket is £160 (about US$200) and even though I only do the lottery twice a week I have spent a lot more buying tickets than I have won.
$0.5bn sounds far too much to win though. I assume anyone who wins that amount must give away a large chunk of their winnings because unless the person has very expensive tastes they are never going to be able to spend more than a fraction of that.

Never got to my appt today. Taxi came and we left. After a few minutes of talking with the driver, I started to feel woozy and sick. I threw up several times, asked him to just take me home, and when I got there, felt better, enough to go in and get some disinfecting wipes to clean the seat and floor. It wasn't too bad, and he was nice about it, said it can't be helped. I cleaned it up very well, and thanked him for his understanding.
Came home and washed everything I was wearing and washed up and put on clean clothes. The doctor called me after I had gotten home and settled. I told her why I didn't come, she was nice, and made me a new appt this Friday. Asked my Best Beagirl Billie if she wanted to take a nap with mom, and she jumped right up on the bed. We slept almost four hours and I felt much better when I woke up.
Now the critters are fed and cared for, for the night, except for taking Billie out on the porch potty. I managed to eat something, and drank some water. Mad cause I went to the store but forgot to get ginger ale.
I used to play the lottery where I lived before. Won quite a few $50, $100, and even won a thousand once and had to go to the office to redeem it. But not here much, just once in a while.
Got two letters from the city, one for each cat, that I needed to get them a license. Only $20 per cat, and it's good til their rabies vaccine expires. So that's taken care of. Also logged my medical appts for the next month on my phone and reserved taxis for the appts.

Packing for our trip to New Orleans.
Our shuttle leaves at 4am, flight isn’t until 10:18. I’m not a great flyer. I will stay up all evening to make sure that I’m good and tired for the flight. Thankfully my husband is going with me. Our first vacation in a while. It’s a family wedding.
A nice thing happened. Two of my guy friends rode with me tonight. Our club ride is Wednesday. But they rode with me tonight so that I wouldn’t ride alone. Glad I got the exercise in. I’ll be more tired for the flight.
I have a lot of apprehension going into this trip/flight. I will be checking in a lot, lol.

Good Morning Weekenders
Least, sorry you were sick. hope you’re feeling better.
Peke enjoy your trip. Remember to pack your sober muscles.
Zen that’s a lotta prize money on the lottery.
I went to a shop I’ve been going to for years yesterday. It sells nearly out of date stuff, food, pet foods and much more. They have two shops and a market stall. This shop they’ve extended and yesterday I remarked how busy it is. The assistant says it’s always like this now. I wondered if it’s since the extension work and more choice of things to buy or are people becoming more aware of the rising costs of everything and shopping accordingly.
Nice to see it light out at 6.30am. It’s dull and wet but light. This rain doesn’t seem to give up.
Have a good sober day. Shout out if you’re struggling.
Love to all. xxxx

On the gambling theme, I went to York horse racing about 12 years ago. It was a day of drinking overpriced beer (plastic glasses), mediocre fast food and losing about £100 in betting. It’s no hardship to say I’ll never watch a horse race again 🙂 A good friend of mine was actually addicted to gambling. I think he’s over it.
Gambling. I worked in a casino for many years. To say I've seen a lot of down-on-their-"Luck" cases would be an understatement. That was also where my drinking spiraled to scary levels. I was young and pretty and never paid for a drink - and you can imagine the trouble that followed in a 24 hour town where you can have a glass of whatever you want at 2 AM or 6 AM or whenever you feel like it and no one bats an eye.
So glad and amazed I got out with my life. Dark times.

Enjoy New Orleans, Peke. It's a couple hours away from where I grew up. We used to sneak out and go over there on weekends in my teens. Lord. Some people hate the city but I think it's beautifully unique. Plenty to see and do sober.
