Hey all, so ive got a chance at a promotion and been asked to go for it, an informal chat tomorrow, im very nervous, i think this might be a good move as im doing same govt job last 25 years. I feel imposter syndrome. Maybe this is a blessing sent to me, i feel ive lost so much, my parents, my ex of 13 years to addiction and then my godmother all in the space of 3 years.
I feel like they have the wrong person but i know 3 people in the dept. Times like this a glass of wine would have been my go to, i cannot even go a walk as i hurt my ankle and its strapped up.
I am afraid of everything.

I understand the imposter syndrome.
Mine was a result of my addiction. The more sober time I got and the more I practiced self care the more I realized I DO deserve good things to happen to me.
BB you DO deserve good things.
You're management believes you do too obviously or they would not have even considered you.
I think if you feel the move may be a good one then at least have a chat with them.
As long as it's not a stressful move that will threaten your sobriety I see no reason not to consider it.
Stay sober. Practice self care. You are worth it. You deserve it.

I agree BB - they must rate you to ask you.
You don't have to do anything right now but get an interview.
Stay in the day
Don't talk yourself out of what might be a great opportunity,
Best Wishes

One things for sure I would rather go to an interview fully sober with no hangover. If I didn't get the promotion or job I wouldn't want to forever wonder if it was because I had acted different because I was drinking.

Hey all
so wow, i did get the job, I think ive been stuck in a rut and this new job sounds exciting and will ultimately help me focus on continuing sober
I am doing physio now for ankle, focused on doing better.
Its amazing too last while people have mentioned I look well
must be the detox
I appreciate all of you so much, its amazing to have this level of support.
I am of course nervous and anxious new job but wow, what an opportunity, and one I can savour sober

Thanks everyone
It has given me a boost for sure, I feel like I have something new to focus on and there is a pay rise too so looking to travel a bit in the new year
I wish I could share this news with my parents but my family and friends are happy for me
I need to believe in myself, I can cut out drinking and I can do this job.
Thank you for your kind words everyone.

Hey all
sorry, ive been so busy family and work. Sure easier with no hangover. Ive a government job and my new job being blocked by existing employer. Few occassions i wanted a drink to 'take off the edge' feeling i wish i was not on this planet at times

Take it easy, BB. You’ve got some good stuff going on from your posts above.
The losses over the last three years struck a chord with me (2019-22 in my case), and all I can say and promise is that it does get better. Just stay sober, please, and reach out on SR 🙂

Sounds like living the good life to me!
All these years I thought The Good Life was getting wasted and flying around like a maniac.
Since I've been sober I realize it's family and healthy living. That's the Great Life
