Weak times
Weak times
I've been doing reasonably well over the past week.
I haven't even wanted wine at all.
OF course I've just been hunkered down at home with the flu.
A couple of days ago it started snowing hard here.
I thought, heck this is great I don't have to go anywhere anyhow.
I couldn't get out of my driveway if I wanted to.
then the nice neighbor across the road plowed my driveway.
All of a sudden I'm thinking about running to the liquor store.
Wine and watch some comedy.
I just barely got a hold of myself to play it forward.
Oh come on when you drink and watch TV you are a zombie! It doesn't enhance it! You don't even know what you're watching!
Also I posted on here yesterday morning trying to help someone who was going through similar cravings.
My advice was, the alcohol is physically out of your system now after your two weeks of sobriety.
It's all just a headgame now! You can do this!
Then 2 hours later, I'm tempted in the same way.
Anyhow, I just dodged that unexpected bullet.
Yes, I know more will come
Just having my morning coffee and planning out my (sober) day

Zenith this is hard as all here can attest. All are here to support each other in doing the next right thing. I focus on “just don’t drink now”. For me keeping it that simple makes the complex cravings easier to endure. Best to you.
Good Work ignoring the AV
I like replying to threads and giving advice.
It helps me as much or more than anyone else. I have to analyze their situation and ask myself what would I do. Then if I am ever in the same situation I already have the answer. As you did.
Keep up the Good Work

The alcohol leaves the body much faster then the obsession to drink. Unless it kills you right there.
One drink and that obsession to drink is absolutely refueled. It probably won't show right away but its there and likely back to as strong as ever.
Even without factoring in the obsession, when you play the tape foward and take an honest look it should be pretty clear the right decision is not to drink RIGHT NOW. Just for today, just for right now is my only concern. If you drink things are probably going to suck sooner then you think.
Play the tape foward, good job, that's the way to do it!

You CAN do this. If I can you can. It was about 36 hours for me of wanting wine. Then it was gone. Just no matter what don’t go get it. I eat healthy 99% of the time and I got a donut instead. I am so happy I didn’t give in the other day. You will be if you don’t too. I promise you
Tnx Everyone,
. I'm doing well and hanging in other than that craving 2 days ago.
I'm going to head out to grocery shop this morning. I haven't left the house in 10 days.
Luckily we don't sell wine in our grocery stores in NY, I will avoid driving near liquor stores today.
(Yes, I know where all those are. Haha)
I will probably treat myself to a double cheese burger and coke.
Just a mild concern really while out there.
But feel equiped enough and have no intention of getting into that horrible wine habit again!

But the important thing is that the recovery strategy remains the same for physical withdrawal and the head games: DON'T DRINK, and that leads you away from both those triggers. During the physical stage, it was iron will. The head game stage is more intellectual, by recognizing your own head games and remembering that a slip leads back into the addiction.
You will have to figure some of this out on your own, because there is a large step between knowing how and actually doing it. Like walking or riding a bike, doing it right requires knowing through feeling. You will know when you are doing it right, but like the bike, it takes practice to feel the "rightness."
