I feel like I've been walking around dead for 24 years
(For me) I just wanted my living reality to go away. But it didn't, and got worse with drinking.
Found that living in my reality and trying to make sense of it with some integrity was not as terrible as I feared. Found I could exercise my mind in a much more interesting way. Drunk is same always.
And for me that has meant sobriety.
If I were drinking Freedom, I would feel exactly as you do.
I wish you'd get on the programme.

Thanks for the replies everyone. It's day 1. Going to an AA zoom meeting at 730, church at 1000 - trying to get in the rehab mindframe. Will ring the mental health centre afterwards, there's a nurse there Saturday. I could use some extra support.
FF You ARE worthwhile - you deserve to be healthy and happy. Your future self is screaming at you - we are too good at selective hearing. Sending you light and love.
