Day 35 - doing everything right but …

I still feel so tired ! My sleep has settled down , I eat super healthily , I go on my exercise bike or walk and do yoga each day and I’m still exhausted ! But if I can do all those things there can’t be much wrong with me right ? I literally have no other symptoms … However, my Fitness watch tells me I am at the highest level of stress ALL THE TIME.. so I suppose it’s that but if exercise, sleep and yoga don’t fix it , then I don’t know what will ! Frustrating !

I think you know what a doctor would say.

I have a Garmin watch which tells me how many calories I burn watching Netflix or whatever. I like it for sports as it’s a good comparator and motivator. It also displays low and high stress. It often says “high stress” after I’ve been running. I don’t feel stressed just tired from the run. Apparently these watches measure stress by heart rate variability, and it’s probably the one feature I completely ignore. I think for stress, we need gut feeling. Do you feel stressed?

I guess the thing to remember is that if you were drinking, you wouldn't be sleeping in any restful way, you wouldn't be eating super healthily, wouldn't be biking or walking or doing any yoga. And you would still be exhausted and have many worse symptoms than an unrested body.

I only point out the obvious ICDT because in the past, that frustration with your ongoing feelings of exhaustion have tripped you up some I think?

Day 35 is amazing. Stay strong!!!

Hi ICDT

I think you know that stressing about your son does you no good at all.
Have you considered seeing a counsellor at all?

They may be able to help you with this ever present stress?

Maybe you need to foreground this issue if you haven’t already?
Its a constant theme for you, and it’s regularly making you unhappy?.

I’m not trying to be mean - you deserve to be happy like the rest of us

I know you’re having a bad time, but you mentioned fitness watches. Please remember this is a community page. Sorry if my answer wasn’t what you wanted, and I hope things work out. All the best.

I don’t need a fitness watch to tell me I’m stressed Hodd..and I didn’t ‘want’ a particular answer. I know I’m stressed and I know why and I’m trying to fix it.

Do everything right for 135 days and see if you notice improvement.
Your body adjusted to the persistent intake of alcohol.
It adjusted by producing more anxiety chemicals, because its bad for survival to sit around in a stupor all the time. You might get eaten by a saber-tooth tiger or something.
Now your body needs to adjust to the absence of alcohol.
It takes time.

You got this!

It's okay to be tired and stressed. Good stress bad stress I happens in life. I too use a fitness watch just curious on how my heart rate is during anxiety episodes I have. It helps me also with my breathing counts to help stay in the present moment. When this happens. My resting rate is in low 50's and when I exercise I try to keep it at above 160. Good job on your recovery putting in that work makes us tired.

I’m at 143 days sober and also have chronic fatigue. Dr can’t seem to find anything wrong with me, labs all normal. So I get it.

Just to add that I think it can be normal to feel like this but definitely see the doctor if you are worried.
I did not feel right after quitting drink for well over a year, it's been two years now and the difference is amazing , energy levels so much higher and I just feel "well"
I figure that given the abuse I've dealt my body over years and years, it's unsurprising it took more time than I'd like to heal.
35 days is great but still early healing, be patient with yourself
love Billy x
