11 months

I’m 11 months sober today.
Sometimes I can’t believe I’ve come this far.
In 2020 I made it 7 months 20 days but made the mistake of thinking I could have a few.

30 more days for that big milestone.

Wishing everyone a great weekend!

Absolutely fantastic!! Good work. I hit 14 months then allowed compulsive behaviour to take me over. I knew I'd regret it but I did it anyway.. I have managed to wrap up the relapse in just under 3 weeks and am now moving toward 10 full days back. It was hard going through detox but I knew I had to push through it else the relapse would continue on for months and life would get worse. I was playing around with 'last drink' dates in my mind (oh no, I don't like the number 7....perhaps I'll quit on the 11th or 16th, etc) - ridiculous! I heard someone somewhere in the recovery circle say to me once 'we are alcoholics, we don't get to choose when our last drink will be'. I have been thinking hard about AA approach...God...me...belief....responsibility and sort of reached the conclusion that I may need a hybrid approach. Me running on self will and determination alone hasn't worked in the past, and neither has prayer and handing it over. Anyhow, that's me. SR has really helped me to feel less alone during this frightening time. People like yourself are an inspiration, thank you for sharing your achievement.

And thanks to you, Silver, for the reminder not to have that few (or even one) drinks. It almost defies logic that we can’t drink, but that’s the sad truth. Easier to accept we’ve lost the battle with alcohol so steer clear for life. I’m sure you’ve had a load of positives in the last 11 months and in the 7 months in 2020.

Congratulations, Silver. My main strategy for continuous sobriety was to embrace the fact that alcoholics will never be able to stop at that first little drink. Well, we can, I'm sure, but they we make the second mistake, because we add to that first irrational drink, "Look, I just had one little drink! Yay! I'm not really an alcoholic anymore. Pour me another bartender and I can have two drinks. Yay! I'm back," and that is the truth. We are indeed back, the same way we got here in the first place.

Great stuff. Keep it up and what is amazing is that what you heard here for a long time becomes true - it just keeps getting better

Yes, In 2020 I had a good stretch of sober time, lots of positive changes, in my health, relationships, mood etc. Same improvements this time as well. The only difference is that it is now it’s very clear that my body (regardless of why my mind thinks) can’t handle alcohol anymore!

Wow - 11 mos. (+ one day) - that is fabulous, Silver! The first year with all the triggers it brings is challenging. I felt so much better when I knew I could get through holidays, vacations, etc. without drinking. Congrats!
