13 years sober today. Best decision I ever made was to get sober. If you are just starting, PLEASE keep going. You won't regret it. Every day of sober is 1000 times better than day high or drunk.
Congratulations. One of things that is so rewarding in long term recovery like yours is discovering that recovery offers more than a change from "I was a drunk" to "Now I am no longer a drunk." That change happens only once, but as the years add up, there is a slow but continuing process, where you notice your health, confidence, and maturity keeps changing. You put some effort into it, not because you have to, but because it's alomost instinctively something that happens in the absence of alcohol. Quitting happens only once, but sobriety keeps happening. We often measure it in years, but that is just one measure, and a very minor one at that. There are inner changes taking place where real pleasure and satisfaction takes place. There is no yardstick to measure this by. The best measure we have is only that it continually gets better.
