I tried over and over to control my drinking and it only got worse (in IOP I learned this is what happens). Eventually, I decided I wanted to lead a sober life and that meant being willing to give up every "good" thing I associated with alcohol. After some time, I was able to reflect back on those "good times" and realize a lot of them were distant experiences and times that were long gone or not likely to happen again even if I was still drinking. And I also realized I could still have good times while sober. There are some good books, videos, podcasts and options out there too that I learned from in early recovery. These techniques, methods, perspectives helped me a lot and that includes this forum. For me, the more time I got on the recovery path the better my life became in a way I didnt foresee or expect when I was drinking. Good luck.
