Call me Jesse, New here
Hey, community.
I'm a new member and I'm glad to join you all. As an addict it's important for me to keep in mind that there are people out there who have similar issues to what I do. For me, I rarely find sanctuary in the understanding of people who are close to me. That's the job of communities such as this. I often find it difficult to force myself to go to groups, especially during these times. I've spent a decade fighting addiction on my own and I'm only 27. I know I'm none the wiser, but I've been afflicted by addiction for long enough. I'll leave it there.
Best,
Jesse
I hope you are all doing well.

Welcome to SR Jesse. You are in good company here, that is for sure. SR is a great place. Are you in recovery or maybe heading that way? By the way, whatever the case, you are SO wise to get this figured out at such a young age. I am more than double your age and lost decades to drinking. Trust me. Don't do that. Put this thing in your past.
Glad you shouted out Jesse. It is tough to battle addiction on one's own. I already had plenty of evidence beyond a reasonable doubt by 27 and finally for the first time had anything long term at 31. I have not had the perfect journey, but it is mine and I would not trade it. Wish for you one day that you can just by putting one foot in front of the other and moving in a positive direction, just look back and see how far you have come. It is truly a nice feeling.

@totfit I placed myself here (in Boise) so that I can join up with an organization like Pheonix Multi-Sport. Our options have been fairly limited so I've been discouraged. That's not an excuse just a road block in my mentality. I hope you're all doing well in CO. I spent 5 years in Boulder and was saddened by recent events. I'll be back in the front range at some point soon.

You can do this!
Welcome Jesse. 27 is young, like you say, but what a wonderful gift you can give yourself to get sober now in your life. So many of us, including me, would give so much to have done so at your age. There's so much wisdom and support here. It will get you sober if you do the work and you let it.

I'd love to give you all a unique response... but instead I'll just say thank you to everyone because you all came out in force.
Surrendered19, totfit, Dee74, Steely, b0glerd69, Sammy1980, Robbie64, adrunk42long, Libby06, Zebra1275, fishkiller, kinzoku, lessgravity, and Anna thank you for your support.
I can tell this is an awesome community by the support I'm already receiving. I'm sure we'll get to know each other better as time goes on. I started using substances(name one) when I was 14 and it's becoming less prominent as I reach my 30's. I now only use alcohol but It's time to cut it out as well.
Again I hope everyone is doing well and I appreciate the support.
I appreciate you all. Thank you.

It's great to meet you, Jesse. I agree with you about the importance of talking things over with like minded people. I had no one in my life who understood what I was going through. The first day I signed on here I felt tremendous relief - I knew I wouldn't be judged or misunderstood.
Congratulations for seeking a sober life at your young age. When I was 27 I had many years to go before seeing the light.
